New Exhaust System 2005 Tacoma

Trying to replace an exhaust system on my 2005 Tacoma. I already have the 16625 Magnaflow cat-back but I have been trying to save a few dollars on the rest of the kit. Below are the cheaper alternatives I've found online. Anyone know whether or not they're decent parts? Or is better to bite the bullet and go with something like a direct fit Magnaflow system from the manifolds back? I'll add the links to the parts if anyone would like to know more. ^ I think the OP is asking about everything upstream from the muffler.. But anyway I just undercoated my 05 before winter and I gave a big "sigh" when I looked at my exhaust lol. It's looking pretty rough, and the bolts look like they will snap if i even try to touch them. I also have some small leaks at the headers (typical). I've been looking into my options too. The Ebay ones look decent, but I've been here before with a different car. It was a cheap quick fix, but it was rotting out 2-3 years later. You get what you pay for. That Chinese stainless is borderline false advertising lol. I'm no expert but i think they have very little chromium (corrosion resistance) and too much iron, it's more magnetic than good stainless. So it will last maybe a quarter the time of quality factory parts or name brand aftermarket will. All that said i just ordered a cheap axle back from Amazon in the meantime lmao. The part from the headers and back will cause the most grief to remove/replace so I plan to spend my money on that portion. I know I'll probably break off every stud in the block so I'm going to get something name brand so I can do it once and get more time out of the parts.

 

I know it is pricey but the TRD cat back exhaust is top quality, fits perfectly and has a great tone without droning. Shown here on my ‘10. See you on Weston Pass on 11/17.

 

Is that factory setup with just the muffler swapped out? Sounds nice and not obnoxious to me, though it's hard to get a real indicator of volume through a video.

 

its an aftermarket muffler, and a vid I found on Youtube, not my truck but my truck sounds pretty much like that.

 

those are cheap, the metal is going to be thin, they will probably glow red hot. I would pass and get something of better quality or try to find someone selling oem one. Those wont last long.

 

I have this one too, but the resonated one. Sounds great. Had one one my wrangler before too. Definitely deeper pitch than the video.

 

I had mine installed three years ago and so far it's help up pretty well.

 

Just a heads up, those ebay headers with the Y pipe are only for 2wd Tacos.
The headers will fit any 4.0L but the Y pipe will not fit 4x4 platforms.
Also, You could find them everywhere from $100-250. But now you cant find them at all. The Chinese ebay vendors like DNA, Speed Daddy, Auto Dynasty, Top Speed King, Autumn Wish, Etc all are out of stock.
I'm actually looking/waiting for a set to do some dyno pulls since it looks like it's never been done.
Just curious to how they would stack up vs the higher end offerings.

 

Yeah I already have the 16625 Magnaflow Cat Back, but I hope it's something low tone like that. I really hope it's not too loud, just deep and heavy!

 

I keep leaning towards biting the bullet and going with the products you know should last. It'll be the difference in spending around $1500 or $2500 on the kit though. Most of the quality manifolds and headers that I have found are around $800-$1000 compared to the $300 that I found on EBay.

 

Yeah I noticed that it splits differently than the other direct fits that I have seen, I was concerned about that. EBay green lighted me on the fit but I was still skeptical, thanks for confirming. And I assume being Chinese made you can typically expect less quality, although I am not sure how much anything will last in our climate and conditions, we have pretty harsh winters and use a considerable amount of salt on the roads...

 

If it was me, I would avoid cheap ebay headers at all costs. I read a thread yesterday about a gentlemen with a 1st gen @Wulf that got ebay headers and had to lift his motor 2-3 inches just to get them installed. It turned into a nightmare for him. Save yourself some frustration and buy some good Doug Thorley, URD, or other name brand headers. Everything else from the headers back should be okay if you go cheaper on those imo, but the quality may show in the long run..

 

Yess ^^^^ what @rjbiii said. I went through some cheap ebay headers on my car, they glow red hot and melt the shiv out of wiring because they were so incredibly thin. Didn't take long for them to warp and due to the low quality of metal, the first rain I went through, caused them to begin to rust out and were useless in less than 6 month.

You spent good money on a quality truck, save up some extra money and do you truck a favor and use quality parts. They will be more expensive, but it'll be a one time purchase that you dont ever have to deal with again in the future.
