Umm... the setting adjustment on the 5100 is to provide preload to the coil.. adding more preload ( with the clip on the upper notch) will give you more lift and will in fact change the ride characteristics. You're compressing the coil..

    Work in progress...
I think you will love that set up. I would maybe think about upgrading the rear shocks at some point.

And its the same idea with more expensive units like 6112s / Kings / Fox. All of them get lift from preload. But the beefier they are the less dramatic it is so it doesn't bother people as much.

Not really. That's what it seems like when the coilovers are off the truck. Once installed and it's sitting on its own weight, the compressed length of the spring will be the same. Spring rate doesn't change and the weight of the vehicle doesn't change.
If you could crank adjustable coilovers at ride height with the weight of the truck on them, you will see that the springs don't compress more, they just lift the truck higher.

Unless of course your ride height is at full shock extension then yes, you will be compressing the spring more and it will ride like shit.

Well I can't understand it for you... do you know how spring rates work?

We were talking about pre-load.. not spring rates...Screenshot_20181107-152839_Chrome.jpg

His spacers will not change his ride, the suspension hasn't changed from stock, trucks has just been pushed up a little. Inside the strut spacers will pre-load the front a little and cause a little rougher ride but that is not what he has.

What he should have done is buy a "top-plate" spacer lift (like the 3/1 from Lowrangeoffroad.com)
Much healthier for components without preloading the spring. WAAAAY different and better, plus keeps the ride the same

Did you even read that? The very last part of that says that it doesn't increase the spring rate. No matter where you set your ride height, the springs will compress the same amount when the truck is on its own weight. So the ride wouldn't change.

I don't think 5100s will change the preload with different ride heights. When you change the height you would have to remove the spring, when you reattach the tophat to the spring, you're going to compress that spring the exact same amount because the actual shock will be up higher relative to the body with the spring. Preload WILL NOT change, I promise you that.

That spacers are ok. I'm surprised not many people have heard of a top plate spacer...the ONLY spacer that should be run on a taco
