I read that somewhere too, sounded as if they were planning on using the new Jeep pickup as a platform for it.

I still say the Jeep will be a bigger threat to the Taco than the Ranger. The Ford dealer will try to move everyone they can to an F-150 due to higher margins. Fleet buyers will stick with the Transit Connect. Ford fans that want a Ranger will buy a Ranger.

The Jeep though is a lifestyle vehicle, pretty much just like the Tacoma. I can see lots of people who aren't brand loyal getting sucked into the Jeep that would normally fall into a Taco.

If the purchaser never owned a Tacoma, they may be satisfied with problematic Jeeps. If the other way around...its like shooting yourself in the foot.

Relaibility issues never seem to affect Wrangler sales. Doubt a Jeep truck will matter either.

I think Ford is going to try to market the Ranger as a lifestyle vehicle too, they already have all kinds of accessories available.

Until they commit to the Ranger Raptor I will hold my position. Facts, like torpedo's be damned.

Agree. It didn't hurt Harley Davidson sales either.....Wrangler UN-reliability is well known but they still are everywhere. Is it the Jeep mystique or are they giving great lease deals like they advertise on the Rams?

Jeeps are more off road friendly and usually the best offroad street looking trucks but it's a different price range than Taco. I doubt it will be in the same price range as the Taco. Not to mention Jeep is more for the OR cult rather than the soccer mom driving a Taco to practice.

Plus I read another link yesterday where Toyota reps told media that they are expecting Ford Ranger to be selling well but they are not worried. For Toyota to even bring this up BEFORE any real sale #s means they are watching the Ranger release really closely. Yep..Taco finally gets some real competition now!!

Being in the market right now for a truck, I've felt the excitement from people for the coming Ranger and also to a somewhat lesser extent the Jeep. I'm sure that Toyota is also aware of all the buzz. I have to admit, I'm very curious about the Ranger. I think it will sell very well upon its availability. Plus, Ford will definitely advertise it heavily and have better TV commercials than Toyota. Toyota's is basically someone droning--- "Come in and see our trucks" BOORING.

Soccer mom driving a taco to practice? Do you even see what's posted here by enthusiasts? Jeep is going after those people. Or at least people that think like those. And tacos run from 25-50k, I find it hard to believe that the Jeepster won't fall in that range.

People act like midsize trucks are a new thing. People always rave about what's new, remember all the praise the Colorado and canyon got when new?

I'd bet the Jeep pickup is Pro priced or higher. They know Jeep people are crazier than Tacoma people. How else would you see half of the CR 10 worst vehicles list are built by Jeep and still buy one?

It is not very easy to prove what private party sales are closing at. This website is one of the only public sites that I know of that tracks history, and lets people not party to the sale see details.

The high examples I found here were restored models without a lift, and not the most desireable colors and trims.

This is a really good tool for buying/selling classics.

Yep, but then we found out the Canyon/Colorado wasn't the international version and it was an brand new truck built for the American market with a so-so engine and drivetrain.

This Ford Ranger shell has history overseas and the numbers seem way more impressive than what is offered currently. I mean nearly 30 more torque more than the Tacoma. That's almost as much as my V8 Land Cruiser 100 series.

The jeep truck seemed deeply unattractive. The one thing the Wrangler has always had is a baseline look that is short and squatty. Their SUVs were not so hot.

Tacoma is a quality, comfortable, reliable, off road jeep. Bank on it.

No one in America gives a shit about the international version of anything. GM did what GM does best, hyped the shit out of a product, then cheaped out.
