OK, so, having a few years left on this wonderful planet my wife and I are selling everything off, got the camper, and are going to travel across the country seeing her splender! So, on a cheap budget what would you recommend as must have mods? I have the 2017, DCSB, 2WD with the 6 cylinder and tow package, already have the brake controller and hitch and camper setup. I have a dash mount for all the phones. Good highway tires as I do not plan on doing off road. So, what else? Cannot do a topper as I have to be able to load my mobility chair in the back. Crane will not fit under a topper.

I have antenna mounts but am considering moving them. I have light bars but not sure abbout mounts for them just yet. Want to be comfortable but still have money to buy gas!

    Congrats and enjoy it!

Depending on the tongue weight of your trailer, and the weight of your mobility cart, I'd suggest upgrading your rear leaf springs to eliminate rear end sag. That's an inexpensive mod that will make the truck more driveable.

After that, do you have a dash cam, GPS? That'd be on my list.

I may put in some tire plugs, vivair compressor/pump, tow strap, snow chains, and a battery jump pack. That’s it. Have fun! Sounds like a nice trip.

Just completed 7850 miles through Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Californian and back. You already have everything you need. Toyota did a pretty good job with this truck. More comfy than any car I owned. Don't know why you need more lights. I prefer driving and seeing things in daylight. Just a tarp for your buggy and storage (food, water, gas) containers and you will have plenty of money to actually do things in it.

Oh, and freecampsites.net. Boondocking saves you even more money.

i would suggest making sure the trucks rear suspension is in order. few hundred dollars for new leaf springs and you're set. Other than that, just start driving and buy what you need as you need it. You'll never be "that" far from a store and you can ship anything to a hotel

You both must be pretty excited . It should be a lot of fun .
Just a thought , I have seen mobility units mounted on the rear of travel trailers that make it real easy to load and unload. This could save you from having to unhitch the trailer every time you want to use it. Also frees up the truck bed for other things.
You probably know this also and unless it has changed , Walmart's around the country allow motorhomes and the like to camp over night in their parking lots for free . They do this because since the people are there anyway , they tend to buy supplies there also.
You may also look up the Good Sam Club . It is an RV club that is a wealth of knowledge for travelers .

    Good luck and enjoy !

Truck stops are also good places to spend a night for free. Some even have separate parking for RV's so it's not so noisy.

I have driven across the country twice in a 2004 Honda civic coupe. You need your sense of adventure, your enjoyments of each other, open mind -

    and condoms and cocaine...

just kidding - just have fun OP - I have great memories of my two trips.

Southern Utah is magical. I want to get deeper into the back country.

You may want to pick up a set of snow chains, just in case. Head out on the trail see what You find yourself wanting and add as Ya go.

Air compressor, and a solid spare tire top the list. I would also recommend going for an inexpensive bed cover just to conceal anything you are carrying in the bed.

Off topic, what's your radio set up? Looks like VHF/UHF, and is that a 20 meter hamstick on the passenger side?

Tis is the one thing I have been considering. i have the WDH set so it eliminates any droop but big bumps still cause councing. So either add a leaf or Air Bags, or ????

The one on Drivers side is a Quad Band for my Yeasu FT-8900, the right is indeed a 20 meteer Hamstick. I have them for 10-15-20-40 all on quick change. That is for my Icom-7100.

For GPS I have a Samsung Tablet on a DMM phone mount, I also have the Yaesu and Icom head units mounted there.
