Atv Tires?

Anyone ever try putting atv/sxs tires on there truck? I've seen samurai's with atv tires but they are a little lighter than a tacoma. I was looking at super atv intimidators 34x10.5x15 load rating of 475lbs at 7psi. Clearly 7psi is way to low without bead locks on a truck. Any input is appreciated.

 

I just wanna know why you wanna do this.

 

Im not tryna be a smart ass, first and foremost you wanna make sure theyve got a load rating that can support your truck and then some. Id say try to find some with a load rating of 800lbs AT THE VERY LEAST. these will likely handle terrible as well. ATV have much Softer side walls so turning will become a nightmare on anything other than sand

 

I've been looking for a super aggressive tire that would be for the couple mud events I go to every year and something that will paddle in the snow a little better than the Nitto's I have now. Boggers are $$$$ and only offer slight improvements to traction in mud as they have a 1" lug. Most atv tires like these have 2" lug and extreme side wall lugs compared to any MT truck tire.

Now i understand itll work but i wouldnt street those tires maybe if youve got a spare set of wheels you can throw on some paddles when you get there

 

Wait your saying you wouldn't highway cruise those!?! Come on they look so smooth and ballanced. Hahaha they would be "weekend" tires offroad only.

 

IDK if I would put ATV tires on your truck, I think they would be pretty overloaded. They would look amazing though!

I know a guy who actually runs 34" tractor tires on his 70 series Land Cruiser. He drives to the trails on regular A/T tires or whatever, with the tractor tires on a separate set of rims. And then switches to the tractor tires at the trailhead. That thing will go through some serious mud. They have huge lugs, but are stiffer and handle the weight of a vehicle no problem. No clue. Searched mud truck tires and they came up.

 

Why in god's name would you want to do that?

I don't think there's an ATV tire on the market that has the kind of load rating for a pickup truck. Good luck finding a shop that'll mount and balance those.

If you plan on taking it above 25 MPH, then don't even think about it.

 

Maybe look for tractor tires.

 

I betcha they wont even balance out at all. Least not without a huge pile of weights.

I'm sure a shop would mount them if they have a machine big enough. But you'd be better off with tractor tires or the ones Mitch suggested. Worked awesome for that guy I linked the vid to. Its really best for mud.

 

They make some crazy looking mud tires that's exactly for this purpose, they're just relatively expensive.

 

If you want something that aggressive you could always cut a set of boggers

Exactly.......thats why he is looking for a cheaper alternative.

 

Did a little research. My truck weighs roughly 3100lbs out of the box. Ranger 1000 4seater weighs 1800lbs bone stock. Add winch bumpers roof stereo doors heater plus the total rated load capacity for the box and it's going to be more than 3000lbs. Those Carlisle skins they call tires are 27x14 4ply. The tires I'm looking at are much larger, 6ply and stiffer than most stock atv tires.


I don't have to worry about a shop installing them because I can do that myself. Balancing isn't going to be attempted, my Nitto's aren't ballanced either.
