Matt has already mentioned its very expensive. Kinda doubt hes going to do it, would be nice though. Theres sooooooo many tacomas here in california wonder how many of them are ovtuned and want to go down the turbo route

I wouldn't bank on CARB certification, nor should you. No company should pay for that garbage, then maybe the 'people' will act and take back their state from such bs

The FA20 in the WRX is not a low compression engine. Turboed engines used to be 8:1. I agree it won't be as reliable stock but Mat is working on tuning his own truck to make it safe.

As annoying as it is as an auto enthusiast to deal with emissions compliance I for one LOVE having clean air to breathe.

I lived in China and got a taste of what Los Angeles was like before the clean air act and CARB, fuck that shit.

I've been to Beijing and have experienced it too- but air quality and CARB certification for aftermarket auto are two separate conversations.

Carb is a way for the government to steal our money. I dont believe they even do the sniffer test anymore here in cali for newer vehichles. So whats the point? Money.

Turbo kits on cars that retain catalysts will not turn us into China. I've been to China, where the skies are black at noon, and you see people in gas masks.
I have a friend I work with over there and he has said a majority of it comes from coal factories, not vehicles.

CARB cert doesn't mean much if you look into it, and it doesn't guarantee anything is clean.

I've seen, worked with, and fixed "CARB" certified tunes on superchargers and turbos in california that literally ran like it was a 1940s carburetor lawn mower.

Most people these days don't know that nearly all harmful emissions are during the first cold start, that 30 seconds or less it takes for the ecu to get sensor data and go into closed loop.

Carb by itself didn't improve California's air nearly as much as the technological advancements we have in vehicles today did.

Yeah I remember him mentioning the high cost as well, in addition to it being a long process if I'm not mistaken? But yeah, that would be a huge bonus for people not willing to pay someone under the table or to avoid having to revert to stock for every inspection

That's excellent. Perhaps @OVTune can confirm that's still his intention when time allows

Honestly it depends. If the kit ends up being successful, we'll go for it.
If we end up just turboing 5-10 tacomas in total... not going to happen.

What if i buy the turbos and then carb comes out afterwards, would there be a way get mine compliant? Also how many sales would have to be made to be considered successful? sorry these are really important details to consider seeing as i live in California :-/
Its really hard for anyone living in California or a strict emission state to invest in these turbos and not having them compliant.

The problem is you live in California, and I don’t, he’s obviously going to have to raise price for all kits if CARB is expensive. Even if 100 kits sell, if only 10 or less of those kits need carb then is it worth risking the 90 others backing out if it raises price too much.

Well we dont know the exact details of carb pricing or the process involved in getting it for him. I would assume only folks buying from california or a strict emission state would have to pay that premium price as it wouldnt make sence to make customers from other states pay for it. Im perfectly fine paying a little more for some peace of mind
