so i just got back from vacation in hawaii 3 days ago and we stayed on the big island and Maui. almost every truck we saw on the big island was lifted and four wheel drive iv never seen anything like it before haha but in maui there were still a great number of lifted vehicles. most of the trucks i saw were tacos 1st gen and 2nd gen. so i never had to miss my truck while i was gone because there were so many over there

I noticed the same thing. They love their Tacos over there. Nothing cooler than a lifted Taco with some Thule racks and a longboard strapped to them.

that's how we roll in HAWAII...BIG, TALL, and WIDE...:D

you will see bigger lifts and larger wheels and tires on the BIG ISLAND and KAUA'I compared to O'ahu and Maui...

even though O'ahu is the only island that enforces recon...they have been cracking down on lifted trucks on MAUI...not as harsh but if you get a dick cop he'll tag you...argh

Just out of curiosity, what are the laws that they are cracking down on?

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
Recon...so lame. I'm dreading it about as much as going to the DMV. It's basically a re-evaluation of the safety standards of your vehicle after you do certain mods like lifting it. Seems like a quick $15 for the government since a lot of trucks are lifted here.

amount of height between bumper and pavement, tires can't be sticking out past fenders, tint, amount of lift on a vehicle...stupid things like that...

it also pertains to dropping vehicles as well..

basically RECON stands for RECONSTRUCTION...that usually pertains to suspension, performance modifications to exhaust, engine, etc...

local government wants to be able to keep track of all the modifications to a vehicle that's not there from factory...its lame cause only on O'ahu do they enforce it...the other islands want nothing to do with RECON so they don't vote on it at all...lol

that's the very reason why I would hate to live on O'ahu...too many lame @ss rules...

My truck passed Recon with flying colors! Whoooo! :headbang:

Maui! Born and raised! I had an 85 extra cab with 42" Super Swampers. And 39 Mickey thompsons!

No Recon! Recon is only for cities with a population of over 250K, So if Maui keeps growing then you will see Recon there also!

from what I remember...the local shops need to also vote and pass this for it to take place...

most shops won't do recon on the other islands cause they don't want to have to deal with the stress of peoples vehicles not meeting regulations for recon when getting pulled over...because of this that's why none of the other islands have yet to pass and enforce recon...just the way I like it...:D

Actually they would have no choice. Once the population reaches 250K it is mandated. (I think Maui is at like 160K)
Only Oahu has a population greater than 250K at this time. But Maui is getting close! It's only a matter of time.:frusty:
When I lived on Maui the DMV would hassle me all the time! I used every loop hole to stick it to the man!LOL!
Plus I had low friends in high places!:D

Yeah there are a lot of Tacos here. Surprisingly there is not much activity in the regional section of the forum.
