James @Wild Crow has had the snorkel into the cowl for quite a while. It has worked well for him

 

I need to read the writeup on that mod as I still haven’t figured out how rain doesn’t just run rt down it into your intake but it apparently doesn’t

 

Because it sits under an area without the holes. Also it sits above the bottom of the cowl.

There is a channel under the cowl which diverts water left or right and out. The intake is above that channel and is shielded by the cowl. The openings in the cowl are offset from the intake. Water comes in away from the intake and flows under it. Its the same reason rain doesn't come in to the cab through the blower intake for the hvac.

Secondarily, in all the rain we've had, we have hit standing water at speed that has covered the hood and windshield to no ill effect

Wish I had done this before my misfortune. I like this much better than an ugly snorkel. The saying that it gets fresh air and no dust to me is BS because where I've run the snorkel sits in the dust.

Ive been on a few multi vehicle trips with me leading down a very straight gravel road. The vehicles in the rear view are absolutely engulfed in dust. There is no way, short of being a 16 foot tall snorkel that a dorkle is a no dust intake. They may ingest less dust in a normal daily driven type situation, but not any better if you're in a dust bowl.

 

Same here unless you run one of those cyclone things to separate the dust.

 

A precleaner is the real answer for that. This is why heavy equipment come with them in their dusty environments it's necessary.

 

Jeez this thread is dead not even the crickets are chirping in here or the camper thread. It's that slow time of year i guess.

 

Yeah that's what it's called I was using the more technical term

 

They work very well on heavy equipment. Hw well they work with a snorkel and especially at highway speeds IDK. There are several members that use them in conjunction with their snorkels though so it must not be an issue

 

The guys that did the Swisha Loop this past summer had good success with them

 

Took the toys up on the mountain this morning for some exercise. Came home with a big 'ol doe good freezer meat.



Then gave the 'ol truck a real bath for the first time in a few weeks I've just been power washing when I get back from hunting

 

You're going to wash the damn paint off that truck! Gets about as many baths as most of the ruffians on this site.

 

LOL not as much since it's been cold. I have pretty much just been power washing the mud off after hunting and leaving it be. It just sits here at the house now anyway. I got the little car all done. Wasn't bad once I figured out how to convince the old hub assemblies to break loose. I did end up haveing to replace the dust shields also
