    So, to confirm:

    Front: 7.5" Reverse Rotation
    Rear: 8.25"

Why is the front reverse rotation?

Yeah it's a bummer, but Bruce has sold this beautiful LT Tacoma too now which is even more tragic

Cause it spins the opposite direction because it is rotated essentially 180 degrees from how the rear is and the t case just transfers the turning to the front it doesnt reverse the direction the DS spins.

Cheaper than an SC and you'll feel it all the time, but honestly I'd give a call to Zuk and see if he has a lead on some used 4.88 and then you can just buy rebuild kits. Sometimes you find used gears on TW too, that's how I found those 4.30s

I’m happy with the current size. I’m just looking to gain some power back and improve my fuel economy. This is an investment since I’m going to be towing long distances, State to state.

How fast do you drive on the fwy? 4.88 seems to low of a gear for 32s & auto. Most people go 4.88 with auto & 33s, that's what I'm running, I wouldn't want any lower with my tire size for fwy driving.

For people that care about fwy cruising they usually go 4.56 with 32s & auto. But then again it's not really worth going from 4.10 or 4.30 to 4.56. Just saying.

I’m going off of @Speedytech7 ’s Advice. My average cruising speed is 80, with a trailer I don’t go faster than 60. I’m looking to make it easier to tow my enclosed trailer long distances.

Um ok. Yeah 80 is how fast I drive on fwy, 90 max at times. With 4.88 I think it's perfect for auto, 33s & balance between power & rpm. My rpm is just slightly higher than stock, a tad bit under 3K at 80mph. At 80mph, 32s, auto, you'll probably be over 3K rpm.

    I don’t remember if I’m 32” or 33”. I’m running LT265/75R16 with the 3RZ Auto.

What would you recommend? I’m looking for better all around performance.

265/75r16 are called 32s (31.6). 285/75r16 are called 33s (32.8). Of course actual size varies a bit by manufacturers but that's pretty much it.

I'm just saying 4.88 seems too low for 32s. Again, normally 1st gen guys run 4.56 for manual trans & 33s, 4.88 for auto trans & 33s.

Generally manual trans can get away with running a step higher gear than auto. Like 4.56 and 33s puts you right about at stock with auto but with many people's experience, 4.88 is better. In my case, mybrear end shop told me the same, with 33s & auto, not worth going from 4.10 to 4.56. Recommended 4.88 & they were right, I'm happy. But you have 32s.

This is the chart I followed & found it to be pretty spot on for those that care about fwy driving (old post from TTORA). It skips 32's but you can pretty much figure out the recommendation. But if Speedy recommended that to you then he must have a good reason. Maybe the towing is a factor? I just don't ever remember anyone recommending 4.88s for 32s back when I was on CT, was always 4.56 for 32s & auto.

    31's (10.50)
    2.7 A - Minumum 4.10 or 4.56. A 4.30 if you could find 'em is near perfect.
    2.7 M 3.4A - Minimum 4.10
    3.4 M - 3.91 or 4.10

    33's 2.7 A - 4.88
    2.7 M 3.4A - 4.56 or 4.88
    3.4 M - 4.10 or 4.56

    35's
    2.7 A - 5.29 2.7 M
    3.4A - 4.88 or 5.29
    3.4 M - 4.56 or 4.88

And FWIW, I paid $950 for just the rear installed from my local rear end shop. Yukon 4.88, 29 spline adapter, all new bearings, etc. They're a Yukon dealer, saved me $100 than if I were to order from ECGS. On top of that they took my truck in on the spot (I only went there to ask what I needed to order) & truck was done the next morning.

Come to think of it, don't you have 4.30 now? If yes it's really not worth going from 4.30 to 4.56, such a waste of money unless you can find the gears used & get it installed cheap or do it yourself. And again jumping to 4.88 with 32s might be too much (as in too high of rpm, too low of a gear ratio).

It's not a cheap investment having to regear front & rear, probably looking at right around $2K installed, so it would be best to try and ask as many people as you can who have regeared with 32s. When I had 265/75r16 I didn't even consider regearing.

Is there a thread for the pre-86 solid axle trucks? Thinking of selling my second gen for a long wheel base 84 with a w56 5 speed mated to a Mercedes turbo diesel.
