    Sooo...I'm about 80% on selling my Tacoma. I love the truck but I just don't think it's ideal for what I am using it for (full time mini RV) - it's too small and I'm way over payload limits.

    Looking at used F150 or F250 regular cab with the 8 foot bed and a used FWC. Thought about diesel, but I just don't think the MPG are worth the added cost with the increased price of diesel so looking at gas engines.

    Anyone have experience with either, or thoughts? I drive about 40,000+ miles a year so unfortunately MPG is a serious consideration. I get about 16-17 highway with my Tacoma right now which I think is a minor miracle considering all of the shit on it.

    Plan right now is to try and sell it as a package with the camper, but I doubt that will happen. Next step is pull skids, sliders, winch, lights, air compressor, etc. off of it to try and reduce the price as much as possible for a sale. Bumpers will stay with truck unfortunately because I had to cut body panels, and I no longer have the stock parts.

    With that many miles per year, diesel is BY FAR the way to go. A gas engine is going to be quite tired by 120,000 miles (3 years in), while the diesel is just starting to hit the sweet spot.

    Thanks! I love all of Jon’s stuff - he’s actually selling his Tacoma for very similar reasons to me.

    My concern with the diesel Ford is the increased cost and that I can’t use Mexican diesel among others

    So dipshit question over here. I have a four year old so my daily is stored in a biometric pistol safe mounted to my bedside. It'll take about five minutes for someone with power tools to open. And pretty easy to walk away with. If it's stolen, basically it's my word against there's on whether or not it's locked up and if I'm charged. Is that correct?

    Increase cost with what? Yes diesel is slightly more expensive and so are parts, but the increase in fuel economy and the longer service life of diesels make it similarly, if not more cost effective in the long run.

    Chevy, Ford and Ram all have different pros and cons. I’m a huge fan of the Cummins engines in the Ram trucks, they’re the only manufacturer to have a solid modern diesel. Fords have great drivetrain and body and Chevys have the best transmission and creature comforts. If i were to buy a new truck tomorrow it’s be a hard decision between a new Ford or Ram. I’d probably lean towards Ram because of the Cummins and possibility of AEV goodies

    You get what, 20% better MPG with diesel? But then diesel costs about 20% more so it seems like a wash for me. Maybe I’m missing something.

    I’d love an AEV’d out Ram but they (Ram) seem to hold their value a lot better than Ford and I want to get out of a car payment. Ideally I’d buy a 5-10 year old model for cheap now and save money/decide how long I want to keep being homeless.

    I’d have to sit down and go over our fuel logs but, 20% is conservative. Diesels are built
    to have a longer service life, as well as tow. beefier parts=less chance of a failure

    Diesel (fuel) doesn't cost 20% more than Regular. Most places around me are nearly the same on Regular vs. Diesel.
    Safeway on NE 4th in Renton for example: Regular is $3.38, Diesel is $3.49 (less than 4% higher.)

    Figure average MPG for the gasser is 15 MPG (ha!) and the diesel is 20 MPG.
    Annual cost for 40,000 miles:
    Gas = $9,013
    Diesel = $6,980
    Savings for diesel = $2,000/year.

    That's a 5 year break even (assuming $10,000 premium for a diesel truck over gas all else being the same.) Let's call it 6 years with the higher cost of oil changes to break even.
    6 years is 240,000 miles. What's a 6 year old F250 with a gas engine and 240,000 miles worth? Nada says $16,575. Same truck with the diesel? $24,075. That's $7,500 more value. That actually changes the breakeven calculation, since the "extra" cost of the diesel engine only wound up being an extra $400 year.

    It's highly likely that the diesel engine won't need extraordinary maintenance for 240,000 miles, but the gas engine likely will. That shortens the realized breakeven timeframe even more.

    Mexico is supposed to be 100% ULSD by December 2018. I have zero desire to visit Mexico by plane or boat, which means my desire to DRIVE in the country, with my own vehicle, is actually a negative number. So not a factor for me.....

    I haven’t been back in WA for a month or so, but in TX right now gas is like $2.40 (!!!!!) and diesel is $3.09.

    *EDIT*

    I've read the actual law and it states

    "(3) Subsection (1) of this section does not apply if: 11 (a) The firearm was in secure gun storage, or secured with a trigger lock or similar device that is designed to prevent the unauthorized use or discharge of the firearm;"

    So, no. Someone breaking into your house and stealing it while it's in a reasonably safe location won't lead you to charges. In fact, if it was used/stolen by unlawful entry all you have to do is report it within 5 days. It's more about your kid, or friends who know where your guns are and are able to access them and use them in a manner which they weren't supposed to be because they weren't locked up. I probably have the same biometric safe in the same location as you because I have a young child as well.

    The whole text about gun storage reads as follows.

    Sec. 5. SECURE GUN STORAGE. A new section is added to chapter 9.41 RCW to read as follows: (1) A person who stores or leaves a firearm in a location where the person knows, or reasonably should know, that a prohibited person may gain access to the firearm: (a) Is guilty of community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the first degree if a prohibited person obtains access and possession of the firearm and causes personal injury or death with the firearm; or (b) Is guilty of community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the second degree if a prohibited person obtains access and possession of the firearm and: (i) Causes the firearm to discharge; (ii) Carries, exhibits, or displays the firearm in a public place in a manner that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons; or (iii) Uses the firearm in the commission of a crime. (2)(a) Community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the first degree is a class C felony punishable according to chapter 9A.20 RCW. (b) Community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the second degree is a gross misdemeanor punishable according to chapter 9A.20 RCW.

    It's pretty much saying if you're a dumbass and leave your gun on the coffee table and your 10 year old takes the gun to school and brandishes it you can be charged with a class C felony. That being said, I'm not a lawyer, only taken a law class or two and am somewhat capable of basic reading comprehension.
