    Hey guys,
I’ve got an 05 Tacoma TRD sport and ever since I’ve had it (about 2 years) it’s been really rough over bumps both in terms of noise and actual ride quality. It has felt like it’s just slammed over bumps. It’s harsh. The whole cab shakes around and and makes a violently loud noise. When I go off the pavement I feel like I’m breaking my truck even at very low speeds. My buddies Stock 06 SR5 can jusy fly over the same terrain without any crazy noises or harshness. I’ve got new OEM shocks and coils that I put on last year as well as leaf springs. I’ve got 2 month old firestone destination LE2 tires, and my Yokohama geolandar winter tires don’t make a difference. Both are aired to 29 psi. I’m thinking it’s the cab mounts that are just worn out now, but I don’t want to waste any more money.

I havent actually had this happen so maybe someone can chime in on the symptoms. But, there are instances where the plastic bed wears away from the mounting bolts causing a gap and loose composite, maybe rattly, bed.

Check the motor mounts. I believe they are known to break on the early 2nd gens.

Body mounts are cheap. But you're just going to have to get under there and figure out whats loose. It could be any number of things from cab mounts, motor mounts, bed bolts, suspension parts, exhaust hangers, spare tire etc, etc, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, and they definitely are. Mine broke already and had to be replaced. I used new OEM ones

I think the bed bolts should be okay. I noticed the bed was slightly off to one side after my frame replacement so I shifted it. I torqued them all back down to 65ft/lb cause I think I saw somewhere that that was the correct number. The problem seems more front end then anything. Could shock bushings/mounts cause this also?

If you have recently had a frame replacement than take it back to the dealership and tell them to fix it.

Sounds like its not the bed, but FYI, there are spacers under the bolts, so if the bed is worn it wouldnt tighten it up. Full disclosure, read that in a thread.

Does it actually *feel* more rough? Or is it just extra noisy?
TRD sport may actually feel more rough than an SR5. I think I remember reading that they have a thicker swaybar. And how about the shocks...? What do you have for shocks? Are they BLACK? Or are they YELLOW/BLUE? What shocks does your buddy have? Black? Yellow? Aftermarket? How many leaves are in each of your rear spring packs? Maybe you have 4 and he has 3?

The back end of mine is super rough over bumps. I've noticed it being much worse in the last year or so. I'm just chalking it up to crap leaf springs that are 12 years old. I haven't got mine changed yet.

What psi are your tires at? If they are over inflated it'll ride like chit. Outside what else has been mentioned all I could muster up.

    Need more info...

Your buddy's SR5 with black shocks, has crappy shocks. Bilstein's should be running better????

Did you install new bilstein's or used?

Where is noise coming from.... Front or back?

Is it only hard bumps like pot holes, or all little bumps in the road?

If bang/rattle is from the front, if you have OEM aluminum skid plate, bolts can come loose and cause pretty bad noise up front.

It shouldn't be overtly harsh with new bilsteins.

New bilsteins. 8k miles old. Noise Coming from front back, but louder up front. It’s all bumps in the road big or small. I’ll tighten up those skid plate bolts right now and see if that helps

Ok, so that makes up for the rougher FEELING, now just find the source of the noise and you're good.
