I was in the same boat. Didn’t think it looked that bad and spent the first 3-4 years of its life in a garage but it did fail.

Not saying it is a fact but I got the impression from my dealer that Toyota corporate isn’t brought into the mix until they say it failed and have to submit for approval.

Mine was a MD truck for a few years but it's been an NC for at least 3 ('09) I guess we'll see. I always poke and look around when I change the oil and haven't seen anything that is remotely concerning besides a little surface rust where welds are.

My 2009 Tacoma frame is rusting. This is the second Tacoma I've had with this problem. The first was a 97 that was bought back, and now this. I think I'll buy a Ford if this isn't fixed.

I got my frame inspected and it passed, I called Toyota directly and they said you can get it re-inspected from another dealer to get another opinion.

So you want to buy a Dorf?

Those look way worse than what I'm seeing with Tacoma's.
    So good luck with that....

Edit: POINT IS THIS: All steel rusts. Either maintain it, or give it over to the government's salt industry bailout package.

Don't wanna get too far off track here but I will. I've been driving this dumb '18 4DSB with push button and crap and I don't like it. Had it a month already and I'm half getting used to it. Feel like I'm cheating on my 09 AccessCab who I went to start up yesterday. Anyone here end up buying the loaner truck and trading in the fresh frame older truck? No chance I'm doing it but wonder if Toyota hopes we would.

Dropped my truck off 2 weeks ago. Dealer said it took 60 days to get a frame and they needed to have the truck there so that nothing happened to it so they wouldnt be stuck with a frame. I got a new highlander as a loaner for the time being, but Im pretty pissed about the truck sitting for that long.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Told me 60 days. I go once a week and start the truck up. Even though they say they do it every 3 days I don't believe them. Its been a month and over 1000 miles on their loaner truck.

I dont have a 2nd key for my truck so id have to go into the service department every time and pick it up. Ill prob drop by in a couple more weeks and start it at least once. My dealer didnt say how often or if they started it, they just said i have nothing to worry about.

Im almost wanting it to take 60 days or a bit longer. That way i can use their loaner on my Christmas trip thats about 1500 miles round trip.

Are you kidding me? Of COURSE Toyota hopes we would :) . I drove around in one of those 2018 fancy Tacomas with every feature imaginable, for 2 1/2 months. I did sort of get used to it (especially the keyless entry system), but when I got my 2007 Reg Cab 5 sp manual 2.7 4 cyl Taco back I was one happy camper. The dealer said that now you've got the new frame and all, we can give you a great trade-in on a new truck. I said forget it!

When I first came home in my fancy new loaner taco, and it looked like I would have it for a while, a buddy of mine said "now's the time for that trip to Alaska!" :)

Yeah thats the same one I got in the mail. Boy am I glad I did because I needed a new frame and my truck had fallen out of the replacement widow until this update came out.

If you dont have any rust dont sweat it. You can always take it in to get inspected just in case if you want though.

i hates the transmission on the 2018. i drive all highway and it got annoying as fuck.
i did like the push button and rear power window. and unlocking the truck with your hand is awesome too.

and i wouldn’t worry bout your truck sitting for a month or so.
mine sat in the parking lot. i drove every so often to see if they started work on it but it sat there until they called saying parts were in.
    it will be fine

There's no point, because my frame is just dirty, not rusty.

I just had my frame inspected a month ago as I approached the 10 year recall window end date... at least that's what I thought the window was. Mine wasn't bad enough to get replaced so they did the frame spray treatment. Then this week I got the new notice that pushed the window out to 12 years. Makes me almost sorry I didn't let it go longer until it got perforated, although I have mixed emotions. It'd be nice to have a new frame with the new control arms and brake hard lines that come with, but I'd rather not be w/o my truck for 60 days... and I have some aftermarket equipment (extra backup cam, subwoofer, alarm/remote start, tonneau, etc) that I'm afraid might get messed up during a frame swap.

We'll see how it goes. So far I am reasonably happy with the spray. After a week or so it was dry to the touch but flexible. And the dealer did a good job with coverage and avoiding excessive overspray. I'll be sure to check it good before the 12 year window closes to make sure nothing is breaking through.
