3rd Gen 2016+ Tacoma Tailgate Lock

What’s ship time on the red? I just remembered I’m leaving next Thursday for a few days...

 

Oh ok. So when we buy it comes with two? Then return the other one?

 

No. One order = one lock.

 

If it was ordered today it will be in the mail tomorrow. I have some stock on these after a few long weekends.

Tailgate theft on the rise in my area. Even made the news and a detective assigned to investigate. So I just purchased this heavy duty lock.

 

And for that one time you forget to lock it, poof it's gone. Then you get to deal with insurance or out of pocket

 

I asked the Toyota parts guy near my house, he parts them together at least once a week. It seems the more trucks sold the more tailgates get stolen. Last numbers I saw was around 145k trucks sold a year. Not sure of the stats on the 2016+ style.

 

Love the lock....took seconds to install

 

It looks like there has been some rubbing on mine. Just on the one corner. I don't have the truck here to see if it caused any damage, but I never felt it making contact while opening and closing the tailgate.

 

Sent a few questions in a PM. The lock is aluminum and the hinge cast steel so the lock would take the ware but this is the first time I have had this show up, so I sent a few questions to see if I can narrow it down a bit to adjust my CNC program a little as needed.

 

I just ordered the red, I think it looks better than my current hose clamp...cannot wait to received and install it!

My neighbor has a 2018 TRD Sport (with a factory tailgate lock) came out of his house last week and his tailgate was gone... Watched the video from his garage camera and watched the crooks drill out the lock tumbler and snatch the gate in about 15 seconds flat... This kind of lock in this thread may have either stopped them from getting the gate all together or at least slowed them down enough they wouldn't spend the time necessary to get it off.

I will for sure have some kind of secondary lock on my tailgate. Whether it is this lock or some other variant of the same style...

Thanks for the feedback, I met this person who called despertly on a Nissan that had the lock punched out and gate taken. Firm believer of physical security so thus this product came to fruition. Took a long time to get it right but it does physically work. Locks can be picked and drilled given time but it would take time in this case and they will just go to another truck as it is easier.

 

I challenge any thief to steal my truck before my alarm goes off and I come out armed to the teeth. Thanks for an awesome product, installed in minutes and arrived quickly to boot.
No brainer investment.
