Happy Owners?

I just had rust fixed in all 4 door sills.... I've had a leaky rear diff....I've had rear end whine....I've had several other issues, but I don't want to appear as a whiny bitch...

I still like my truck, but I don't know if I love it. This is my second Toyota (08 FJ), I still have yet to see or experience this legendary Toyota reliability.

 

On my 5th Toyota vehicle since 2003. two Corollas, a Higlander and two Tacos. First Corolla(2003) developed engine troubles around 250000 kms and traded for 2007 Corolla which is still going strong despite the odometer stopping at 299999 kms. Traded a Dodge Caravan for the used 2003 Highlander, now that i had lots of problems and eventually traded it in on my fist Taco, an 2013 SR5 4x4. no problems except it really loved it's fuel/ Traded last year for a 2017 TRD SPort 4x4. does everything i need and sips fuel unless I'm towing. Overall, I've had a positive experience with my Toyota's

 

Despite what the guy on the previous page says complaining to the dealer about legitimate problems doesn't make you whiny. Ive owned 40+ cars over the years and when I purchase something new I expect it to work. Im not going to let the dealer off the hook for legitimate issues because "hey dude its a truck!!" You shouldnt have to put up with a bunch of shit an old truck does on your new truck.

 

Other than the fan motor and Pandora having tethering issues I really like it. The transmission and smaller V6 vs my 2006 is not quite up to par, HOWEVER... When you factor in I have reached 30+ MPG to and from work is incredible!!! I typically average over 25 MPG. If I got 19 in my 06' 4.0 liter I was doing well.

Reliability will be where it is for me. The truck is overall a better truck if it holds up. Had 325K+ on my 06' when I sold it. It was about bullet proof. If I get 250K or more out of this one I'll say its a winner!

 

Love mine, have had all gens, they all have their quirks. Ask any Toyota Service Advisor which owner's are the biggest complainers/pains and they will tell you Tacoma owners and FRS/86 owners. Some of the threads in this section amaze me such as the "my plastic pieces don't all match, WTF toyota", etc.

 

Having has to deal with work trucks from various manufacturers, I kinda chuckle when I hear people bitch about some of these issues....case in point the wonky shifting.

The dead peal feel many gripe about is present across most of the major truck brands. My Ram has it (there are countless threads about it on the Cummins forums), we had it in our Colorado, and it's also present in the Fords (hesitation/shudder issues).

The reasons for this are fairly similar...they can run the gamut from actual engineering issues, to fuel saving tranny programming, to torque converter protection.

The point is that it is present everywhere. If you're jumping ship for this reason, prepare to be disappointed.

The thing is that this annoyance can be avoided n the Tacoma by locking out the OD gears and running with the ECT button on. In my Cummins, I need to push tow/haul in the same manner. Unfortunately, locking the gears out in the Cummins does not eliminate the dead pedal pause that is present in that truck.

I've had my 2018 a week today, and have around 500+ miles on it. After I had the hideous red door panels, and airbag cover redone in black...I love it so far.

 

I had and still have many of the issues that 3rd gen owners have. Some were fixed and some not.

Overall, I love the truck.

 

This is so weird. Mine does the EXACT same thing. Isn’t there a TSB for this? Toyota really F’ed up on this one.

I have about 4600mi on my 2018. It seems as if the tires are losing tread. Does yours have this problem as well?

Hahaha! I love mine also. It has been fun to use, screw around with, and mod. I was just in opposite world yesterday when I posted that.

 

No "whining" = no TSBs for legitimate issues. If you think only a handful of "entitled" owners complaining gets Toyota's attention, well I just don't know about your thought process.

You guys saying that people should suck it up and realize that it's a truck are f@cked in the head lol. Warranty = get shit fixed. I'm not talking about little interior rattles and squeaky leaf springs (although there's a TSB for that).

Personally I'd like to thank everyone who bitched, whined, moaned, and dripped about less than stellar driveability on some of these trucks. The M/T TSB was a huge improvement. THANK YOU.

I do like my truck, but if you'd like me to list the issues I had with it to bring some level of honesty back into this thread, I can.

New member and new owner here. Other than a 2016 4Runner I had about a year ago that I hated, I've driven almost exclusively VWs, so the Tacoma is quite a change. I've only had it for three weeks, and in the first couple of days, I thought I made a big mistake in buying it. But each day I start to like and appreciate it more and more. Yeah the gas mileage sucks compared to what I'm used to, but for everything else it's got, I think I can justify it. I don't usually keep cars more than a couple years, so if I decide this isn't the vehicle for me, I know in a year or so, I can get out of it without losing too much.

 

I was literally going to say this about my tread. I didn’t want to sound like I was complaining. Maybe we should get a list of make/model/VIN and see if there was a problem in manufacturing.
