I threw away the original frames so I guess I'll be on the lookout at junkyards

I think the negative issues some folks experience with various blades might originate from the condition of the windshield. I've had windshields that were so pitted and chipped (when viewed closely) that they shortened the service life of the blades. Can't do much about the micro pitting but claying pulls the contaminates out that can adversely effect wiper performance. A glass wax does help......

I just replaced my Icons with another set of Icons, after 2 years. Didn't really need it, but figured it was about time. I would have went with OEM had I read this thread a week ago.
My research shows these part numbers, for 1999-2015:

    Right

    Wiper Assembly: 85212-04031
    Retainer: 85224-06010
    Refill: 85214-01011

    Left
    Wiper Assembly: 85222-04030
    Retainer: 85224-06020
    Refill: 85214-01011

Retainer is included with assembly, thought I'd share just-in-case.

OEM no hesitation. Next will be my 3rd set.

Happy to see others agree. Was told Toyota has a upgraded part number but I’ve never tried them. Stock works just fine.

Unbranded inserts cost about $5/pair. I really don't see any justification to spend an extra $20 to get a toyota STICKER on the BAG.

Look who "liked" my post though, I'll take that as confirming my interpretation as $15 for both, or $7.50 for one. And besides, the exchange rate has never been $0.50. Right now its $0.76367

I threw my frames out after the first change. Are these the open frame design which would allow ice/snow to accumulate, i dont remember? I love my Icons, i usually change them out of being anal retentive rather then actually needing a change. Other than the cost i see no reason to change

I've tried fancy supposedly don't ice up wipers, and without exception, they ice up WORSE than regular old open frame wiper blades. At least with the open frame blades, you just snap them a couple of times or drench them with washer fluid and the ice is gone.

Its amazing how people can have different outcomes with the same product. I dont have to do a thing to the icons in any Massachusetts weather, they just keep wiping. Open frames i always had a problem, though i dont remember how the Toyota ones were.

I have always used Trico blades, they work great and last several years. Cost about $7/side.

I bought a set of Rain-x latitudes about 2 months ago. Worst wipers ever. Just smeared the water around. I swear unless it was pouring buckets, I could see better without them on. Just replaced with Tricos which seem to be fine. Lesson learned.

Let me see if I can make this clear enough for you to comprehend, since the math is clearly a source of struggle for you...

    $15 CDN for 2 refills.
    $15/2 = $7.50 CDN for 1 refill.
$7.50 CDN * 0.76367 (exchange rate) = $5.73 US, which is close enough to $5.50 to complete the joke.
