Had a modded 98 Jeep Cherokee. Left it home when I joined the military. Was stationed near family and drove around my cousins 2nd gen for about a year and I was hooked! The Tacoma was/is much more practical, looked sweet, and has a massive aftermarket.

Have always loved having a 4x4. Had a GMC Jimmy and Nissan Pathfinder before buying a Honda Pilot (a purchase based more on need than want). The Pilot was a great vehicle for the wife and I but when we started talking about trading it in, we both agreed that we used the Pilot more like a truck than anything else (No kids, etc.). I've always liked the Tacoma's, really liked the look of the 3rd Gens and just didn't have a need for a full sized pickup. So the decision wasn't that difficult.

My Tacoma is the first, new automobile I've ever purchased and the first one that I didn't have to compromise on any part of it. It's a fantastic truck!

Car dealers don’t like me, I buy a car, maintain it, and hang on to it.

    My vehicles:
1970 Mercury Cougar--first car ever, bought used, second owner. Loved the looks but not reliable.
1978 Toyota Corolla--bought used, second owner. Super reliable, this hooked me on Toyotas.
1988 Chevy Silverado--bought used, fourth owner. Loved the 350 V8 engine but the rest started falling apart.
1998 Toyota T100--bought used, second owner. Super reliable.
2018 Toyota Tacoma--the first vehicle bought new just for me. We shall see.

After my 1978 Corolla, we got the wife a new 1985 Corolla, which was a great car. That was replaced by a new 2001 Camry, which my son still drives. She got a new 2011 Camry, which was wrecked, and now has a 2012 Camry. All very reliable. I credit the Japanese auto industry with forcing US carmakers to up their quality in the 1980s.

Wanted a smaller truck than my F150, that was better on gas. I have a 60 mile round trip and the EcoBoost only ever got 18mpg with a tailwind (I get 23 with my TRD OR on average with occasional visits to 25mpg). It is much easier to drive in the city than my F150 was.

The main reason I settled on a Taco vs another brand was purely monetary. My 09 DCLB was bought for $24.5k and traded two years later for $23k. Looking at other trucks on the market, I would have spent another $10k for the same features I have in my new Taco in a full size.

So far, I'm very happy with it. It might lack power and space, but it handles better, it's easier to drive and it will hold it's value much better.

I bought my Tacoma because my 3rd gen 4Runner had 330,000km and figured it was time, even though it was still mechanically fine.

I looked at all of the competitors and narrowed it down to the 2018 Tacoma Access Cab OffRoad vs a Colorado ZR2. I thought the ZR2 was ok, but when I sat in the Tacoma it just felt like i was at home. Haven't regretted the decision one bit.

I wanted a Truck- this is my first Truck- Toyota- I had a '92 Tercel that I put well over 200,000 miles on and it still had life when I sold it- You say Toyota- and well you know you have a vehicle for life- or until something else gets your fancy!

When I graduated college, I originally bought a 2013 VW Jetta TDI and loved that car. I figured since I was commuting a lot for work, 65mpg would be great and I could do over 600mi on one tank of diesel (13gallons) since I was living in Dallas and home was Houston. Well VW screwed the pooch on emissions and I waited it out to see what my payout would be. Come to find out it was only $2,000 less than what I paid for the car 3 years and 50,000mi prior! So I took the cash and went shopping for a gently used Tacoma. Ended up finding my 2015 with 23,XXXmi on it for a good price with trim and bells and whistles I wanted. At that time the 3rd gens were flying off the shelves so they gave me like an extra $4,000 off to buy the 2nd gen. Took out a small loan for the rest and paid it off in a year. My brother is still in his 2007 DCLB and it has over 120K on the dash. He abuses the hell out of it, I think it's still on stock tranny fluid and stock plugs. My uncle has owned 6 Tacomas, 1st & 2nd gens between him and his two sons and he's also never had a problem with them. I wanted a vehicle that was reliable and could do it all. Since I was building a house, I figured something to move wood, furniture, go camping in and whatnot the Tacoma TRD-OR would be perfect. While sometimes I miss having a smaller zippy 6 speed car (Used to have 2007 John Cooper Works Stage 1 Mini), the Tacoma has been nothing but reliable and I don't think I would trade it for anything in the world. I hope to keep it for as long as possible and never plan on selling it. The Mrs. and I plan on going to all the state parks in Texas before we think about having Kids, so here's to many more miles and many more adventures.

Forced to buy when the wife got rear-ended in our 2014 Sentra. Good little car, but all the household supplies kept getting thrown in the back of our 2000 Expedition (which, is NOT a truck...and it took landscaping our house like a champ! It carried rocks, flagstones and dirt with a tarp placed underneath...but still). And SHE said she wanted a truck. So we looked at all of them, and quickly knew it needed to be a new one. I like to keep vehicles, and knowing that you're buying a Toyota is pretty reassuring for longevity's sake. To get the options we wanted (heated seats, NAV, BSM...etc.), it was going to be a $50K+ truck with the Big3, and I just am not financially able to make 2 house payments a month.
Could get all the options I wanted, and not pay nearly $60K was a big consideration as well. Size is perfect...as it'll fit in the garage, fuel mileage isn't bad, and it'll get up and go (despite what a lot of crybabies say on TW!)...and I love my color too!

Oh, and after we got it, she said, "here, hon. You always have given me the new cars. I'll drive your expedition." Love that woman! She has put maybe 100 miles behind the wheel in over a year, and I have the rest of the 16K miles...

Got ours when the HG went on the 2005, looking at the bill to tear it down and maybe see if the block was cracked vs. trading it on the 3rd Gen we were planning to do anyways..

That was the exact same as me and I made the same choice ! F150 is beautiful and lots of power but drove both and the Tacoma was the truck for me !

I always wanted a compact truck and needed a new vehicle that I could buy with out financing. It had to be a Toyota, I was eyeing the FJ, 4Runner, and TRD OR. AC 4cyl, and RC were about the only options left. I didn't want a manual, and the RC was lighter so that was why I went with a RC. Which turned out to be a good decision, I've grown to appreciate the short wheelbase.
