Mine runs great too. Only thing I noticed is it seems to pull lots of timing under boost. This is just from looking at my scangauge. At mid boost the scan gauge reports 10-11 degrees. Full boost can get down to single digits. I feel like it could wake up more if it wasn’t pulling so much timing. This doesn’t include the timing I’m pulling with the piggyback so I believe it’s even lower.

What does your scangauge say timing is under boost? Well I guess yours will definitely be more advanced than mine because of your methanol. Still curious what your timing is.

 

Ouch, that's full on power muder by the time it hits 10*, my truck feels like a freight train on the highway at full boost with 25-27* but at 10* it's almost like why bother

Both the 04310 and 04300 were made at the same time. However, the 04310 is marked as "discontinued" from Toyota.

Had different Vin associations

VZN170 for the 04310 vs VZN160 for the 04300

It's like the SX got its own ECU or something..I wonder wtf is in My SX now..Will have to check!

 

Well again he does have EGR which is rare on 5VZ

That would help explain differing part numbers from the same time. EGR is a PITA but easily deleted at least

 

Your at 25-27* at full boost? Wow. That’s what I see for normal acceleration.

 

yeah should be easy to get rid of it if so inclined. Could be what the difference is. though I fail to see how EGR has anything to do with it as its not an electronic system.

 

I probably run less boost than you, 6-7psi depending on alt. But at alt I can stay in it hard and the timing stays high positives. Low down I can't maintain those numbers without the meth injection.

 

It is completely electronic, VSVs control the operation of the EGR diaphragms and the temp is monitored by the ECU to determine EGR flow at any given duty cycle.

The good is that with eBay you can return it for what ever reason you come up with automatically with
the eBay policy. If you buy one from the junk yard your stuck usually

 

No EGR here. I wonder if that's the only difference, and if so, how it would the two ECM's work with opposing trucks.

I mean considering you can block the EGR easily you should be able to swap it easy enough and it won't be pissed off. Whether it's an improvement or not..that's the real question. If you buy it let us know. Im gonna see what my SX has in it. It's a 95 so likely an earlier model ECU.

 

So if your putting out less boost, 6 pounds let’s say, but more timing let say 25 degrees as opposed to 10 pounds at maybe 20 degrees, what’s the trade off.

What’s your dyno rear wheel horse power?

I haven’t paid much attention to my timing numbers, so I will report back in a few weeks.

 

I think I'm done chasing ECMs. I have an F/IC that I can't seem to get to work, but I feel sure that it's the gatekeeper at this point. I just need to find the time to spend on it.

Either way, I'll report back. I'd really love to find a conclusive, across the board option for this mod and, more importantly, for boosting the 95-97 platform. They are the best, after all!
