I agree with spitdog. My Hobie runs just under 100# and I wouldn't want to heft any more than that up on to the roof. It could be done if two people were involved. The 220# up on the roof isn't the issue if you have the right rack and multiple contact and tie down points, it's getting it up there that will be the problem.

    Hope this helps.

Damn that is a heavy boat.

Yeah that’s pretty much what I had figured, but trailering brings it own fun. I guess it’s the least of the two evils.

Yeah it’s pretty crazy, but it’s the ideal fishing kayak for the wife and I.

The beauty about a trailer is that you can load the yak before you go and leave it loaded for the trip home. Washing every thing down on a trailer is easier then spreading everything out on the lawn.
Your objective is to make it simple and easy and then you will enjoy it more. If it’s a pain in the ass to load and clean up, you will go less.

Cut it in 3 pieces and it should fit pretty well in the bed? Be sure no one is in it at the time. Hope that helps.

I put lots of long lumber diagonally up from the open tailgate up to my bar. This lets me put the leading edge up to bed height the a second lift up to bar. When the tail end is more than 200 lbs. I put cinch strap under the load to the rear hooks holding a crate to distribute the load to the bed frame vs the tailgate.
    Hope that helps.

Also, some off the guys that I fish with in the salt that car top there yaks. They drip salt water on your vehicle on the trip home. So If the vehicle isn’t also washed good, areas that have chrome trim ect. where that salt water ends up will be prone to corrosion and rust.

Yes, but he want to get the 17’ hobie tandem so his wife can fish with him. That’s like a small boat.
I don’t think his intention is getting two. Your statement is correct if he was to get a typical yak, but he is really getting a boat.
