These remind me of your typical China brand. Everlasting/AHP/Longevity/klutch etc. Dunno who would pay $400 for a harbor freight mig 140, when the hobart handler isnt much more, or even the same if you buy a refurb. Kinda defeats the purpose of harbor freight imo.
If they would make a Vulcan plasma cutter, I would buy one. For some reason plasma cutters are either extremely cheap or extremely expensive.

Are the Everlasts that bad? I was looking to buy one 2 yrs ago but never did. I don't know shit about welding. I want to buy a tig to play with. Would like alumn capabilities too. Just don't want to break the bank for something starting out. What say you?

 

I was checking those out last week. I was very impressed. I'm very pro Miller, but I do recognize quality in these units. The build quality is much better than the HH. The warranty on these beats the shit out of Hobart. I really expect these to be baught, then returned after the person's project is done.

These are inverter machines. Hobart unit is a transformer based machine. For a weekend welder, I would expect these to last a lifetime.

The drive train on MIG welders is always the weakest link. These drives look like they came off the same assembly line as my Miller units.

Everlast has a history of losing their circuit boards and parts are hard to get from China. These Vulcan's and Titans are so cheap, if you need a part, just by another and take the part you need and return the welder. I'm betting these are going to be very popular and reliablle.

Other than those HF units, what else would you recommend if I wanted to spend a bit more money?

Yes welders, tig, want to be able to weld alumn if/when needed but I don't care about being able to weld soda cans.

 

As long as it's not stored/parked on public roads then you don't have to worry.

You gan't beat that Vulcan MIGMAX 215. You can have the welder and the spoolgun cheeper than what I paid for just my MM30A spool gun alone.

It does that, too. With that said, I'm not a fan of TIG welding. In 25 years, I can't think of a time I would be better off TIG welding. It's one of those skills that must be used constantly to remain proficient. Most home welders won't have projects long enough to help keep those skills. Just my opinion.
