 You see, this garage is a perfect example of what happens when you cut high school shop classes from the curriculum! What a waste of a perfectly good home workshop space!! :)

I backed my truck in last weekend to find that if I put my hitch in the doorway, I have about 3 inches to close the door. My old garage was a single car that was long enough, but I had to fold the mirrors in to fit. However once in I couldn't open the door to get out of the truck.

Can we please stop saying this? There's no difference in a mid-size pickup now and a mid-size T100 or early Tundra just like there's no difference in an F150 from the last 50 years. The *only* reason they're getting longer is because people want more passenger space - otherwise the width is identical and the height has only changed a couple inches.

Every full-size half-ton has been within an inch of 79" since the 1960's - the only difference is the design that makes them look bigger than they really are.

My truck has never seen a garage except Toyota dealer doing maintenance. I'd have to move my tractors (old 60's Massey, JD lt155) and older Exmark (~2007 56" LHP), kayaks, tools, shelves, and a whole bunch-o shit. Or if wifey asks (I mean tells) me to put here Subie in there :anonymous:

You'd be surprised really. The building code down there is really designed to make houses survive hurricanes with minimal damage. It didn't used to be what it is now. Take a drive through the keys and you'll see that houses are predominantly raised several feet off the ground and are made of reinforced concrete. And before you jump to conclusions, this does not mean that they look like raised bomb bunkers. These reinforced concrete houses are pretty stylish.

Two of our houses have taken storm surges of several feet straight on. Not in Irma since the surge hit the other side of the island in that storm, but rather Wilma back in 2005. That was an 8 foot surge. Just flows under the house, took the boat off the lift and deposited it on the street, killed a few cars, but after a few days of chainsawing and dragging out other people's garbage, everything was back to normal.

Irma did do some real serious damage last year, even in Florida, but for the most part, it was vegitation, washouts, old style wood frame construction, and trailer "resorts".

There’s no difference from today or 50 years but people want more space therefore making it bigger.... Wut?

My friend’s garage is immaculate, with a mint stock 1960’s Ford Bronco he never drives anywhere parked on carpet facing a big screen TV in there. Its their drive in theater couch. His Tacoma parks outside.

I was house shopping this summer. You know the first thing I did with every house? I measured the length, width, and entrance-height of the garage, and I didn't step foot inside the house if it wasn't big enough to fit the Taco with room to spare.

Coincidentally, I have enough room around the Taco in my garage. Whodathunkit!

We just built a home in a neighborhood that only allows a vehicle to sit outside 2 nights consecutively. I absolutely hated our old neighborhood where everyone parked on the street clogging it up. Drove me bonkers. If you can't get your car in the garage, get rid of all that crap you don't need.

People are buying the bigger variants but the trucks themselves aren't much bigger if at all. Single and extended cab used to be the norm, now extended cab is the standard outside fleet and quad cab is the norm. The trucks still haven't grown as much as people imply. The only ones that have are those which moved from compact up to mid-size.

You just convinced me to actually measure my garage. 40' long by 30' wide. It's the reason
    I bought the house, actually.
