1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

On another note something about white 1st gens especially DC in this area all have camper shells

 

one of these days, that dude is going to come out of costco and his bed will have become the cart corral

white first gen shells are getting harder and harder to find it seems

 

Spoolguns suck. Tig aluminum is the way to go.

 

Then you want the Omnipro unit.

 

Its all I do. Doesnt take long to get back into the swing of things. I do prefer scratch tig over a footpedal though, I like maintaining a constant amperage and its what I learned on. Plus its way cheaper than buying a dedicated tig unit.

I'm not looking to do fab work or anything like that. Tig makes more sense for my small non automotive related projects of I were to buy something. I can always borrow a mig from my buddies. I also have a cheap flux core welder just sitting here.

 

What's your opinion on multi process welders? I'm limited on space as it is so it would be cool to have a tig/mig unit. I'm mainly interested in tig. Something llike that new Miller Multi 200 ac/dc that supposed to come out soon. Not looking to spend $3k though right now.

Anything you would recommend?

 

If you can afford one, sure. Lincoln 210 mp is pretty highly thought of for its price range, dont think it does high frequency tig though. People like the Everlast units but when I buy a big tool, I want a reputable name brand that I know will exist in 5-10 years. I know my Hobart StickMate is China built, but it carries a Hobart warranty and and comes with excellent American customer service.

Why the interest in Aluminum? Its a real bitch to weld even with a high frequency tig unit. Ive never found a reason to build anything out of it, if we did at my old job it got outsourced as it was too time consuming.

 

Alumn, mainly machining related projects. Would save me lots of time for certain things & the occasional repair for buddies. Not a necessity but thinking good to have. I could live without though if it doesn't make sense on the price of the welder.

 

It will make the price jump up quite a bit. Either of these would be great units too, again doubt they are high frequency capable. If you go cheap, buy Eastwood as I believe you can get consumables at Airgas. Thats what people dont think of when buying everlast/ahp/ longevity etc. Cant get consumables locally. And if you Tig, your gonna burn through cups, lenses, back caps etc pretty quick as you figure out what works for you.
