What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

33's. I'm not saying 5.29's in your instance. 4.88's is what I'd go with for your needs. Idk how the auto is on the 3rz but if it's like it is on the 5vz it blows! I either have something wrong with my 3.4 or all the hype of the 3.4 over the 2.7 is bs. I honestly think my Tacoma has a shot at beating my T100 head to head.

Do you air down at all?

 

Nope, the auto is just that bad power transfer wise, probably why it rarely breaks too. Head to Head all things being the same I'm pretty sure a 2.7 manual could beat a 3.4 auto to 60mph. I wish I actually tested that before I slapped the SC on the four banger cause now I'm sure I can beat a 3.4 auto haha

 

It doesn't down shift into 2nd gear when it needs to and up shifts to soon so I start losing speed because it doesn't have the power. I drive it like a manual and choose the gears myself half the time. It's pathetic

Shouldn't be that bad, have you checked the compression on the 3.4, you might need a good old fashioned tune up

 

No not yet, want to get the Tacoma back to driving before digging into it. I do get pending misfires for cylinders 1,2 and 3 when it's cold but it never throws a cel.

 

I suppose you are at elevation, I know how bad my cruiser gets around 7k' so maybe that's normal for CO

Is your speedo calibrated? If not could be that the computer will tend to shift too early if the speedo is reading way too fast.

 

Just put 255/85/16 on and it's spot on.

 

Axle looks pretty clean. Going to wire wheel and repaint it black. New used axle will be here tomorrow and o under the truck. Then truck goes to storage and frame starts getting built

 

Not really. They usually are solid. They only flash when it’s really bad.

 

Flashing means bad misfire. Even our trucks will do it

If I'm not mistaken I believe all OBDII does that. I don't remember if OBDI did, I don't think so though, at least I've never seen it.

 

OBDI wasn’t regulated. Some manufacturers did some didn’t

 

I wonder how tight it would be. We should have tried it haha even boosted. Yours moves but its nothing like Frank. Only other taco I've been in that pulls as hard is my Dads. The stock boosted one I just test drove didn't even pull as hard as Frank. The gearing helps a lot.

It makes a huge difference! If you're not airing down, I'd say chains are worth it then. At my work the vehicle mechanics seem to believe that every vehicle should be at the max tire pressure on the sidewall. Any little bit of snow and everyone is sliding around. I set my own pressure and have no problem going further than they are and they are chained up at +65psi.
