Freeman Toyota in Hurst TX did it for me today. I've only driven about 20 miles all in town so it's really too early to tell if there are big improvements. It does seem to have a little more "go". I had heretofore driven mostly in S5 and sometimes with ECT. I'm going to drive awhile in D to get passed the learning then I can measure a clean tank full of gas to see what the mileage is. I really can't complain about the mileage before as I've always been above 20 mpg except for winter.

I’m not sure what you are going on about. I’m not seeking advice and I don’t have a complaint. I’m just correcting misinformation.

Fact: a 3rd party tune will invalidate your warranty.

Fact: OVTune requires consumers to be restricted from highway use to limit their own liability.

You seem to be arguing how a great a tune it is, which is awesome but has nothing to do with either point above. I’m not advocating any position other than people knowing the facts and making an informed decision.

You’re right. Everyone has no legal claim with OV and have voided their warranty with Toyota.
Guess MY screen name should be Dangeroso since I live dangerously. I’m tearing the tags off all my pillows tonight. To hell with tomorrow, I’m living for tonight.

Fact: I can remove the tune prior to service and it’s undetectable.

Fact: you aren’t fun to hang with :(

I get it. Someone says something that can be perceived as critical of a product you support, and you don’t really have an argument against, so you make fun of the person. That’s what I meant by fanboy.

I really don’t have anything against the tune itself, or anyone that chooses to buy it. I truly hope you enjoy it and don’t have any issues.

But I will continue to help people make informed choices and refute false statements like the one a few pages back in post 2721. If that’s an issue, feel free to use the ignore button. I won’t be offended.

Trust me, It's not that there is no argument against your facts, it's that you can't argue with someone who thinks he's a lawyer. If you make a factual statement then you better have facts to prove it and not cry when you get called out on it. It's called accountability
    for example
Fact: I've had the tune for a year and a half and have been back to the dealer multiple times to do warranty work including having them read my ECU while my tune was installed and no one can see it.
Fact: Numerous people have gone to the dealer to do the TSB update with the tune installed which requires Toyota to read the ECU to see if it's falls under the criteria to get the TSB, Once that criteria is met(along with other requirements) then the TSB is flashed UNDER WARRANTY.
Fact: Direct quote from Matt "The tool we use mimics OEM TechStream Flashing, while correcting the checksum. Detecting the tune is impossible. Toyota does not even have a detection tool because they aren't even aware people are tuning them. In terms of older ECUs (sub 2016+ new logic) the ECU cannot even be READ by OBD, The dealership can see codes, freeze frame data, and calibration ID, literally nothing else. We have confirmed this with several master level techs AT dealerships. Toyotas way of "preventing tuning" has made it impossible for them to actually investigate tuning."
Fact: No one has had an issue with any warranty work with Matt. He has gone out of his way many times to try to make sure that the customer is as happy as can be KNOWING their truck is used on road.
Now, if you can find one single instance of anyone who even hinted that they had any warranty work turned down because the dealer even suspected that a tune was installed then I'll eat my words. Likewise if you can find a single instance that anyone even inferred that Matt wouldn't honor a warranty on his product cause it was used on road then I'll publicly kiss your ass and seeing as 99.9% of Matt's Tacoma customers drive on road at some point that'll mean that every truck he's tuned is subject to this warranty issue. In fact, I'd be willing to bet you couldn't find anyone that had a warranty issue with Matt's Tacoma tune regardless of any condition that Matt didn't take care of. Please O great savior of uneducated Tacoma souls, PLEASE show us 1 single example of your facts happening in any place other than your lawyer wanna be mind.
If you really wan't to save the uneducated you should probably be posting your incredible find on how Matt is trying to screw his customers over in the OVtune alpha thread where you could get a proper discussion and possible have Matt himself address your concerns(even though he already told you it's a standard disclaimer) instead of this TSB thread. I know you mentioned it there and pretty much got ignored because it was such a dumb concept from the get go but maybe if you push it you may get some attention.
and no, I don't ignore anyone regardless on how much they run their mouth about stuff they know nothing about.
back to TSB related talk now

To summarize, you are saying that a problem hasn’t happened yet, and want to see proof that it has?

I never claimed that anyone has had a problem, and am only stating Toyota’s and OVTune’s policy.

Not sure what you are taking exception to. Do you not want people to be aware of these policies?

I can’t believe this thread is 140 pages and not a single picture. Time to fix that.

That's not true. The TSB has proven to be much more than a stumble fix, it has increased driveability greatly. In fact, many people on the OVTune site are flashing back to the TSB after trying 1.04r because the tune introduced the downshift clunk, including myself. I'm on the TSB tune, and have no plans on going back to OVTune until 1.05. Cheers

I just had the TSB 0062-18 done yesterday. I told my service writer that the truck has a noticeable pause when I hit the gas pedal hard off the line. I also notified him that the truck seems to me hunting for the proper gear always shifting up and down. I also informed him I was aware of the TSB update. He's said no problem I was the third one for him this month and they did it on the spot. The newest TSB 0062-18 is supposed to fix both the stumble and the eratic shifting. I was told it will take around 300 miles to fully retrain the transmission. We will see

Hey Taco lovers! New to the forum. Very interesting thread.....lots of opinions. Go free speech! Anyway.... got a new 2018 Tacoma on 09 Oct, drove for about 800 miles and noted the stumble. Researching the problem led me to the forum with discussion of the TSB's. Had my Taco flashed and immediately noted the difference in driving. Now approx 500 miles later, I'm noticing the same problem as before the TSB flash. Going to take it back to do it again and see if it sticks. I don't know what went wrong and don't quite understand the "learning" the ECU is doing but will report back on status after the re-flash.

Similar experience to "buffalo sox 71". Also my gas mileage went down by 3 mpg with the 58 and 62 TSB's. So--now, after 3 months on the re-flash, I am left with almost the same behavior as pre flash but with lower gas mileage. Yes, I took it back to the dealer and dealt with Toyota USA directly--which is a long story and was a waste of my time so far. BTW, i am not a "new to Tacoma guy"--I have owned 5 (a 1998, 2004, 2005, a 2010, 5 years with a Jeep Wrangler, and now a 2018 TRD OR--and the 2010 TRD OR with the 4 liter v6 and 5 speed auto was a much better driving vehicle--ie better throttle response, did not "hunt for gears", and more low end torque. It is clear that Toyota really does not have a fix for this gear hunting and poor low rpm torque issue--but maybe they will--have my fingers crossed. In the mean time Toyota USA will continue to hear from me--complaints from customers which ultimately affect their bottom line is one of the few things that will get their attention other than a law suit or a call from the Feds.

    Cheers,

    db
