Hey guys, was there a recall on 2nd gen for the melting headlights issue? I saw a few posts about it but not sure. Couldn't find much info.

Both of my Daytime running lights are burnt, and burnt the plastic on my headlight. So they're basically ruined.

I'd love for Toyota to replace them. Anyone have more information or a link. Thanks

Dealer replaced both of mine on my 2011.
    It's like a TSB, not a recall

    Free?

Hm. I'll have to swing by the dealer near my house and see what they say.

I believe you have to still be under warranty for a TSB.

Yeah pretty much... Wondering if they'll do a good faith fix. Or cover half. Mine are both so burnt they're completely cracked. And now the left side lost the airtight seal.

Many do not understand the intent of the different types of notices Recall, TSB ( Technical Service Bulletin and a Service Campaign.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/class...vice-campaign-whats-the-difference-story.html

Recall = Recalls are mandated by the government when a problem is found with an automobile which is safety related.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletins are issued by manufacturers when there is a problem found in a number of cars which does not have an obvious fix. The TSB is a guide for mechanics to fix the problem but it is not a free fix by itself.

Toyota has two variations of a service campaign:

    Special Service Campaign
A Special Service Campaign is the Toyota, Lexus, or Scion owner notification program to inform customers about specific product or technical issues for which inspection and/or repair is being offered without an expiration date. These issues are typically customer satisfaction initiatives. The described service will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

    Limited Service Campaign
Limited Service Campaigns are programs to inform customers about a product or technical issue for which inspection and/or repair is being offered for a specified period. Toyota requests that customers take advantage of this service prior to an expiration date. The described inspection and/or repair will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner provided the Limited Service Campaign has not expired.

And the burned lights was a Limited Service Campaign.

Thanks for the detailed reply man.. interesting to see the difference.

Keywords though.. "Limited Service Campaigns are programs to inform customers about a product or technical issue"

No one informed me of anything... Just a thought. Haha. Now I have cracked, broken, and slowly melting lights. Fun.

I wanted blackout ones anyways. Hehe

Some folks might not be happy, but I came from a long line of Ford trucks. Let me tell you, Toyota stands behind it's products better than Ford ever did. Basically, once you're out of warranty there, you're totally, completely on your own. For instance, lot's of folks make fun of Toyota for replacing frames. Trust me, if Ford (or anybody else) had the same problem, no frames would be getting replaced for free.

TacomaBeast and all these other aftermarket headlights reduce headlight performance from stock. If you are looking for performance the best option is stock Toyota assemblies. I would recommend the OEM smoked chrome 'Pro style' lights if looking for something a bit more aggressive.

    OEM 2005-2011 smoked headlights:
These are like the Pro lights, but came on select Sport models. These are available loaded with bulbs, and unloaded w/o bulbs, saving $60 off the set . These part numbers are for the unloaded housings. These are the updated TSB version of the lights that do not have the melting DRL issue.
    Right #81130-04173
    Left #81170-04173

2012-2015 lights pictured for color reference. Stock light on left, Pro on right:

They replaced both of mine on my 2011 but they put the same shit back in instead of the updated lights. Shit’s burned again. Fml.
