Options??

I just bought a new 2017 sr with a small lift, but the dealer put 285/75/16 tires on it and the tires rub on the uca when I turn sharp.
And when the tires are straight they are almost touching the uca.

Do I need skinnier tires or should I get som spacers?

 

Lift specs? Wheel type (stock or aftermarket) offset ? Pretty hard to know what doesn't match without knowing what you currently have.

 

Spacer lift, probably 1” not sure about offset. They are Toyota stock wheels

 

I believe 285's will require a 2 1/2-3" lift (ideally with UCA's) and Body Mount chop or at least trimming to clear without rubbing....guessing the dealer went overboard with tire size and assume the fender wells look fully stuffed. 265/75/16's will clear stock but would have been ideal with just a spacer lift.

You can search the threads for builds running 285's and see the suspension mods it takes to run them. If the 285's are new the cheapest route would be to sell them and buy some 265's....your fuel mileage and power will increase as well. Alternatively....you can do suspension work and a full lift set-up and continue to run the 285's.

 

I think spacers might help.

your dealer totally short cutted your truck setup and made it look good at the expense of all function. if you want that Tacoma to perform like it should then remove that crap and go back to stock, or pay the money for a proper lift and keep your 285's, or deal with a looks-good-until-you-drive-it lift with rubbing, handling issues, and poor suspension performance. good luck.

 

Ask them to swap the tires to a 255 80 17 or 255 85 16 (depending on your wheel size)

That will give you the full 33" dia and eliminate the rub.

Since they did it 'wrong', they should do the swap for low to no cost to you, assuming you've not piled a bunch of miles or wear on them.
