I hate many LED lights on vehicles. They're way too bright even on low. The German cars seem to be the worst. I notice them most in areas without streetlights because my eyes have not adjusted to brighter surroundings.

I was reading something the other day saying that, that particular problem is due to the government. Apparently in Europe they have their LED's aimed or set up a little different and it is way better for oncoming cars, cutting off the top of the light somehow. The US hasn't allowed it for years under some dumb law...but this is supposedly under review and might be changed soon.

Source is Jalopnik so you know...take it for what it's worth.

I swapped in LED's on the Ferd and they are fuggin bright! They have the same pattern as the halogens, just a hell of a lot brighter. I have them aimed down pretty far and the only time I get flashed is some dumbass who doesn't understand that when I'm going up a hill and he's cresting over coming down, my lights are going to be in his eyes and there's not a damn thing I can do about it. I was always taught to watch the white line when there's oncoming traffic with bright lights. I've never really been bothered by someone's high beams :notsure:

Too many of them are crappy LED retrofits, too. The factory stuff isn't bad because it's got a pretty sharp cutoff, typically inside of a projector. But there's a bunch of people running around with $20 LED's stuffed into halogen reflector housings just blinding everybody. It's part of why I haven't upgraded the lights on the Ram yet; a good set of LED's that'll function correctly in a halogen reflector is nearly as much as just swapping in a good set of aftermarket projectors. :notsure:

Keep an eye on Headlight Revolution, that's where I ended up buying the LED's for my Ferd. They were significantly more expensive than what I could find from 'no name' LED swaps elsewhere, but they actually test different setups in specific housings to make sure the resultant pattern is the same and not blinding to oncoming traffic. They had a big sale on the kit for my Ferd and I jumped on it.

I do, and was taught, the same. Unfortunately a lot of the back roads I've been taking lately don't have white lines, which is where my original comment came from haha.

On roads I'm not familiar with, without white lines, it can be a little nerve-racking. I would agree with you 100% at that time, it's hard to drive by a ditch or tree line!

The Euros run smart hesdlights. I believe they're ADB? Basically always on high beam but has a front facing sensor that reads oncoming traffic which controls another thing they run, dimable LEDs.

I've always been the type that if you willingly make headlights my problem, I'll make sure to create a problem for you as well.

    I have been, actually

The stock halogens in the Ram aren't bad. I stuck a set of Silver Stars in them and it made a big difference, but they still pale in comparison to the LED's I had in the F150. I miss being able to see 500 feet down the road with the high beams on, lol.

I live on a 9% grade, this happens to me every day. So I started just turning on high beams when I go up my hill and it seems to go over the cars as I drive up so I get flashed a lot less

I think I'd rather do the deal with Pugga, I want to get a 65 in tan, it would be perfect for my needs. Thanks though

I was going to just swap the halogens in the Ferd, but there are 4 of them, they are all on, all the time, and they are a complete pain in the ass to swap out! After I saw what was involved with just swapping the bulb, I just saved up and bought the LEDs. Buy once, cry once. After I put them in, they are awesome! So much so, I'm debating whether or not I even need to put the Rigid Hyperspots on this truck.

I'm familiar enough with the roads but still doesn't make it less irritating when someone is driving with their highs on on a narrow, winding road. Some of the roads I've been taking to avoid traffic lately in the Sherborn/Holliston/Medway/Bellingham area are insane like that. Doubt they'd be approved to be built like that today with today's standards.

In my Sierra people always think I am high beaming them with my lows. I actually wonder if the lights are spec'd wrong or something. They seem to be aimed correctly and I even asked the dealership to look at that on my first complementary oil change, but they said they are perfect. I never, EVER use high beams because the lows are just unbelievably bright. Add the fog lights (which are also LED's and stupid bright) and I am almost blinding myself with the low beams when I come on to reflective signs. So I think some of what you are seeing is the manufacturers fault because I never touch my high beams and I'm almost always getting flashed. Add the boat or sled trailer on the hitch and it's even worse. I also no longer flash them back, I just go "sorry..."

Yeah I've come to expect the LEDs are just brighter. But as Rob said, it's more the older non-LED headlights I've been noticing more have their highs on.

The lows too, it's like a perfect laser beam cutoff line!

I'm wondering if those people are just pissed at the people with newer vehicles and more powerful LED's so they just say screw it and leave their highs on?

I'd been saving for a plow, so upgrading to LED's were a secondary concern. The Sylvania's cost me $60 after a rebate, instead of $500
And now that I've got the plow, it's time to start holiday shopping instead :frusty:

I'll start saving for an LED conversion instead, but it'll definitely be after the holidays.
