I want to put a 3400 V6 in my old, old Mercedes 300TD wagon. Bought my daughter a 96 4Runner when she was in high school, she's 31 now and just sold it in February '18 with 300,000+ miles. One of the greatest engines EVER!
Hello, everyone, I'm new to this forum but have turned wrenches for fifty years. I want to put a 3400 V6 in my old, old Mercedes 300TD wagon (1979). We bought my daughter a used but beautiful 96 4Runner Limited when she was in high school, she's 31 now and just sold it in February '18 with 300,000+ miles. One of the greatest engines EVER! I'll be asking a few questions since I don't have our beloved Toyota to refer to now. First question, can anyone please tell me the outer measurements of a 3400, including the fan? Length, width and height?
Thanks for helping a fellow Toyota guy somewhat outside the Tacoma community (I have two friends who own Tacomas but neither has the 5VZ FE engine.

Rujack - I hear you, seems backwards. The '79s were naturally aspirated, claimed 80 hp and 0-60 takes an hour or so, then it will cruise at 70 mph all day long. The next year added the turbo to the same basic motor and had respectable power. There are quite a few Chevy and Ford swaps into the 300 series cars, but thought I'd do something a little different.

I like the fella in the offroading community that has the turbo diesel out of a rabbit in his Wrangler and gets 24mpg in low range . Haha

I had a 79 300d and loved that car! It was like driving a cross between a train and a cloud. Definitely not snappy at the throttle, but it’d cruise at 90 and was fast enough off the line around town to get on the freeway quickly. Shifted HARD!
