I am not a very mechanically inclined individual. So I don't trust myself to be fiddling with things like that. With my luck, after a job well done, itll end up as a Corolla

Maybe I'll look into swapping a 6spd into the 4Runner one day

Anyone with 3rd gen manuals, do you feel resistance when in 4wd, especially 4 low? Like if on a slight incline with clutch pressed truck will not roll. Dealer told me this is normal but it doesn’t feel right and the 5 speed Xterra I had before this had no resistance in 4wd.

Not here. You do have more parts connected, but no real resistance.

Yes, I get this sometimes in 4low. It kinda feels the same as when you have one brake dragging slightly. It's like a very very slight drivetrain bind. I don't know what causes it, but I don't worry about it.

Can we swap in the transfer case from the 4Runner limited? Because that would be sweet.

It’s a Torsen center diff with a locker, so you have AWD all the time, and can lock it for off roading.

Ok mt guys and girls I have a situation here. I’ve had this truck since July and have been dealing with some sciatica. I have raised the back of the seat 3/4”. I love this truck and love the mt. Has anyone experienced anything like this and if so how did you fix it. I don’t want to have to trade this in.

Got a set of Falken Wildpeaks put on this past weekend, now it may just be me but it really feels like the 5lb heavier per tire weight difference really straightened out the smoothness of my shift points. By that I mean I don't find myself searching for the tiny slot of everything lining up juuuust right for a smooth shift.

Similar to hauling or towing, it seems this truck likes a little bit of work and resistance!

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I have 2 herniated discs that flared up terribly 2 years ago, with ridiculously painful sciatica. Didn't matter if I was driving my Camry, my wife's Rav4 or even borrowing my Dad's Tundra - anything was painful. 8 months of hell trying to drive to work.

My advice is do everything you can to get rid of the sciatica, and focus on being as healthy as you can. That sciatica is your body telling you it needs some help to heal. I thankfully didn't need surgery despite an MRI that looked awful. Just a ton of physio, stretching, swimming, pilates, and a reasonable diet to avoid gaining extra weight while injured. I'm back to an active lifestyle now, sciatica is 97% gone most days, and it's manageable. Sure didn't seem like I'd get here, but happy I did. Your situation may be different, but I hope you can recover and keep driving that sweet ride.

I had this over the years. For a time, it was bad enough that I could not stand still for more than a few seconds. Only motion felt okay.

Doctors were no help and a chiropractor was only a temporary fix.

My personal fix was to hang from a pull up bar, or similar, and let all the muscles in my back, stomach, hips, and legs go loose / slack / limp. I will say that this hurts like a MF'er, but it stretches that pinched nerve out. Sometimes, it'll even pop my pelvis.

Like I said, it doesn't feel good but was the only thing that fixed me.

What I always wanted to try was an inversion table. I never had the chance but still wish that I had one.

They used to sell a nice one at Costco for $200.

I kind of feel that would be the more gentle method to my original approach?

Sorry about this one man! I feel you. Had a severely herniated L5-S1 until I got it replaced with titanium. Lived with sciatica for quite a while. I realized that most factory seats do not encourage good posture. So do whatever you can to sit up straight and try not to let your lower back/butt get too tight. Tension in the piraformis muscle will make your sciatica worse. I used a back cushion for quite a while. And the hardest part, try to shift normally. I found myself twisting my hips a lot and it really just made things worse.

Good luck man. Get better soon

Glad I'm not the only one...I have a bad disk as well in my lower back. Sitting in any vehicle bothers it when it is inflamed. Does not seem that the manual makes it worse. In fact being that I am somewhat active while driving actual makes my manual better than our automatic Tundra for my pain.

Thank you for the kind words and very helpful information. As I said earlier trading in this truck will be a last resort. Will try everything else first. Thank you again.
