Let me start off by saying that I dumped all of my Windows based computers and went with a MAC. There are now over 1500 messages under the OV Tune heading. This may be covered in those 1500 plus messages. So what is the easiest way to download the OV Tune program? Do I need to purchase a cheap Windows based Laptop to download the program to and then carry it around in my glovebox as it was suggested to me when I messaged OV Tune. The cost then becomes prohibitive with the price of the program and then purchasing a laptop to store the program. Just how do you do it? Any cost conscious suggestions?

Your easiest option would be to order the tune in a handheld, they are currently out of stock / backordered but he will get them restocked and that would eliminate the "need" for a Windows laptop. You can also pick up a <$200 Lenovo or something that would do the trick to be able to load the tunes w/o a handheld. Benefit is that you're then able to do logging, and load new tune files onto the handheld (which is only compatible w/ Windows).

If I were in your shoes today, I would order the tune w/ the handheld. Then, if you ever needed to load tune files to the handheld later (for updates or improvements) you could do so via a virtual machine running on your Mac.

It's that (buying dedicated PC) or setting up a virtual machine using Parallels or VMWare (not supported by OVTune) or setting up Bootcamp on your Mac.

I personally run Windows 10 on Bootcamp with zero issues. I wanted to stay away from getting a PC craptop and have more confidence in a Mac that's already lasted me 5+ years.

People say virtual machine is easier (I agree for setup), but the software for that has turned into a subscription service just like damn near everything and if you update your Mac to the newest OS, your VM software upgrade may need to be upgraded to work with the new macOS.

I just checked the OV Tune site and they made no suggestion of a handheld device for the Tacoma. Am I doing something wrong?

They have been closed.... Reopened today. There is a handheld for sale but it appears to be only 2016 and 2017 model years. Maybe check with ovtune if that is a typo if you have a newer model year.

Just ask if you can buy the license and have someone else with the equipment flash for you. As long as he gets his money it shouldn't matter.
