I just ordered BFG KO2s in 285/70/17 (load c) for my taco. I daily drive my truck so I'm wondering what are the significant differences? Knowing the given of losing mpgs are there any other hidden quirks like losing lots of power or the tranny hunting for gears all day on the highway?

I'm 6MT so it's easier for me to control but since you're getting C load it may not be so bad as far as heavy feel while leaving from a stop.

I'm running 285/75/16s on my truck. Basically everything you mentioned above. My truck is also pretty heavy (rack/tent/bumpers) so my experience may be different. But highway driving is pretty tough on the MPGs and gear-hunting.

No issues hunting gears with a 6 speed MT, only when loaded with 600 lbs of gear in the back do I feel the 33s add a tick of lack off the line umph. But only when loaded up.
...Gotta keep it in first a little bit longer....and that 2nd gear pull is still :boink:

    I run c load 285 70 17s.

No other quirks noted. You'll enjoy it off road more, or as mentioned in below post. It looks nice....

You are gonna lose power. It's going to shift more. You will lose between 10-20% mpgs.
    You will get looks.

AND you'll start working on how to pay for the re-gearing to 4.88's

Depending on where you live, in cruise it will shift like a mad man. It’s almost impossible to tolerate the shifting with the cruise set at 75-80.

Running 285/70/17 WildPeaks. E load, yes E load. They don’t have C load so I chose E instead of the LT.

    Power loss: Checked.
    MPG bye bye: Checked.
    Got looks: Checked.
Miss BFG C load 265/70/17: Checked.

    But got looks.

    Hmmmm Yep :’-(

Falken just released 275/70/17 C-rated AT3/W. Although they are a large 275 and heavy tire at 57#'s. They may be a good compromise for those wanting to go up in size to get better clearance, looks, off-road performance without totally committing to a 285 and dealing with harsh E-rated tires.

I daily mine. LT with 37’s. I usually get 10-11 mpg. No regerts.

Oh shifting sucks. It’s sucked the same when I had 285s and when I had 35s.

The 285’s and stock gearing were close to my 37’s with 4.88’s.

285's aren't bad at all in my opinion. I live at 7000 feet ASL, so I get robbed of power to begin with. The truck doesn't have a ton of power off the line, you'll learn to deal with it or pull your hair out. In reality the truck has enough power to make it bearable, it just comes on a little late. I lived with 285's for about 15,000 miles and now I'm on 315's and I'm still not too bothered by it, although gears are imminent. I'm just trying to decide whether to go with 4.88's or 5.29's, and locker or no locker... the rabbit hole is real.
