Yea my 30 fell into my lap.
It was reconditioned (so they say)
They couldn’t tell me what was done.
But bought it for the same price as the 24.
Got it home and it puked oil all over the place.
    So I took it back.
They were very sorry but had no others left.
So I made a deal. They saw the oil all over it.
I said you give me 100 bucks and I’ll walk away and nothing happened.
    I’ll overhaul the motor myself.
I actually had another motor ready to go.
So I got the money, signed it away and left.
Got home and drained an extra 1 1/2 qts of oil out of it..
Cleaned everything and it’s been fine since.
No idea what the cust did, why it went back, what they fixed.
But they had enough oil in it to oil change all my walk behinds.

My Simplicity lawn tractor mowed its last. Started leaving stripes of oil around the yard; looked underneath and the hydrostatic drive casing is cracked! Dealer says that happens when something inside the case breaks. I'm looking at a used replacement now on CL, fingers crossed. I still have a LOT of yard work left to do.

    Morning all:
Dang Dave, they must have cheapened up those Simplicities, I have been brutal on one and it just keeps on running!

Still no deer, we have been seeing deer every day but nothing is going right! :(
I saw 2 bear yesterday, my buddy saw 2 coyotes today.

Yup Mike, most of the problems I see on you tube are user neglect of error. One guy had a bolt come off on a 3 point bearing mount and was pissed. New machine with a factory defect is the reason you buy from a certified responsive dealer not HD or Lowes. Funny part is the guy knew what he was doing and ran the snapped off bolt out of the bearing housing and reinstalled. You would think he understood factory defects better. LOL He should have had your attitude, fix it and keep on going. Of course and extra $100 is always welcomed.

I will probably purchase next week. I need to build a 4'X8' with a 6' height lean to shed first. Need to house 2 snow blowers.

Carl mine is 21 years old and gets used very hard. I have a lot of trees and use the mower to pick up leaves; I am cleaning them up from September through December most years. I take care of my equipment, grease it and oil it and adjust it and whatnot, but I never serviced the hydro. I assumed they were lifetime. I guess 21 years is their lifetime!

OK, 21yrs of hard use is pretty darn good! I'm past 30 on mine, regular oil changes and grease, but have never changed the hydro oil or filter!
I don't think I ever added oil to the hydro, every time I check it it stays the same.

Shouldn't the owners manual tell you to change the Hydro Oil at "X" number of run hours or is your hydro a sealed unit?

There's no hour meter on it Tom, and I don't think it's sealed since I can unscrew a cap and check the fluid level. I think if it was going to grenade it would have done it by now, that thing is a beast!

    Ok...here's something that I don't understand.
When I'm out on the road either delivering or picking machines up I listen to the radio in the truck. I know I could use my phone to listen to what ever but I don't know how to do that nor do I care....any how, I hear an add for this local company that sells bed mattresses, as in sleeping in your home.
Their claim to fame is that they sell "2 sided mattresses"....huh?
Now, correct me if I'm wrong but I ALWAYS thought mattresses were always 2 sided...I don't get it.

^^^^ Yep a lot of mattresses these days are one-side-up, unlike years ago. Pillow tops, memory foam, or internal construction that forces one side to be up all the time. They're telling you they still have the older kind that you can get more use out of.

Wow! Bad fire here in Kalifornia again, down the "canyon", starting around Pulga by Hwy 70, burning scary fast towards Paradise and Chico, thousands told to evacuate, many even told to get in their car and leave NOW! 2300 personel working the Camp fire.

I checked the hour meter. 835 hours. Also checked the service manual; hydro is "sealed" and "lifetime".

New replacement tractor is $thousands I don't want to spend, and the one I went to look at was in pretty poor condition. As in, flogged its whole life and not well cared for.

So I thought, what do I have to lose, let's give it a go at fixing the one I have. I pulled the hydro unit out. Not sure if it's worth fixing. But it might be the only short term option.
