Between those to cartridges, my vote goes to the 45, personally, just because of the availability and cost of the ammo it eats. .38 Super is an awesome little round, but if you're looking at a Browning platform I'd take a 1911/45 or a Hi-Power/9mm over the .38 Super just for the fact that .38 Super is hard to find in my area, and when you do it's considerably more expensive. :notsure:

Same. The .38 super costs about 5 cents more per round than .45, and you can often catch .45 on sale.

    Like Black Friday.

That logic would make sense, if it weren't for the fact that the brass for .38 Super is also generally more expensive than that for .45 or 9mm. Reloading is cheaper, yes, but it doesn't magically make all cartridges cost the same to shoot. :notsure:

    Oh.
    Well then, in that case...
    None of the above

I carry a S&W Bodyguard .380 during the 'hot weather' months, and then usually a S&W Shield 9 during the cooler months.

I suppose I do occasionally carry a .45 since sometimes I'll carry my 1911, if I'm camping or during 'Jacket Season' (since I prefer a high-ride OWB for the 1911, that a jacket conceals).

Edit- Now that I think about it, though, the last couple of times I've gone camping I've brought my model 19, since it's been bear season.

    I carry a S&W Shield 9mm
I take the 1911 out for a trip to the range on a regular basis cause it is one of my favorites.

The majority of my customers with 38super guns are having me rebarrel them to 9mm. Due to cost and availability, just FYI.

Daily, I carry my SF XDS in 45 and my Sig P938 as a backup.

If I'm going out camping or off roading I will also have my Taurus 357 for big game that is looking for a snack. Although I have considered going to a bigger caliber like 44 mag or 454.

Properly fitting and timing a 1911 barrel is not something most people can just do.

Also my customers that are changing to 9mm are for competition purposes. 9mm can now make majors.

Just found this thread, and I equate 1911 owners with drug dealers!

    That right, I said it.
They let you shoot their guns once to get you hooked.......

Now let me tell you why.

I take my son in law shooting out to the desert. He calls and asks if he can bring a buddy. So yeah, of course. We will meet at the off ramp and caravan in.
I get to the ramp, and think WTHF, cause his buddy brought a buddy. That buddy told 2 guys and so.

Later in the day, my son in law are going to compare 45 pistols. He shoots my XD45 and I his RIA 1911. Then his buddy, Mike says, you should shoot my Springfield 1911. My inner voice said run fast, run hard, my the 12 yr old said, Hell Yeah.
I turned as his pulled out this oversized pistol box, the sun behind his head creating a halo, the bird were singing and the wind ever so slightly pushed me towards the pistol.

Opening the case, my eyes fell upon a Springfield TRP Operator. My stomach felt queasy, my wallet felt as if it were floating away.

But nothing prepared me for the way the pistol felt in my hand.
I load it up and seated the mag firmly as I racked the slide, my mine reeled. Sighting the target, I slowly squeezed the trigger and boom, the gun went off in my hand.
Almost no take up on the trigger, broke like glass and the rest was very short.
I simply looked at my son in law and said, "You're buddy's an ass". Then I proceeded to shoot a total 30 more rounds.
I knew then I had get one.

It took me 8 months to find one. By then I had bought SA Mil-Spec, a Colt Series 70. Then I finally found one for 1500 (retail here is 1800) with a few upgrades.

And have now added a Kimber SS 9mm and a Kimber 45.

    Pics later.
