Hard driving

So how hard do you guys drive your 3rd gens? got a 3 in cat back exhaust and i like to hear it
Not everytime but every now and then i will get off the red light fairly quick, maybe in the 4000-4500 rpm. when going under a bridge i give it some gas, just a bit of fun, but i want to know if this will cause problems in the long run? doing engine oil change at 4500 miles to 5k, no way im going 10k like toyota says. 2017 off road.

 

The chances of:
1. What you described causing problems.
2. You keeping the car long enough for the engine/transmission to die.

Are so so slim, maybe 1 in 1,000,000.

IIRC it's 6200rpm on the 2GR-FKS.

Peak HP is 278.... stock

I've taken mine to 6000 on quite a few occasions.

 

How old are you? Just curious. To me, hard driving means pushing it to get to a place and you are 20 minutes late. Or, driving to Florida from Ohio, turning around and driving back after four hours of sleep. Or driving across the country non stop. Or pulling a 5K trailer 300 miles over two lane highway through the hills.

That's hard driving. Giving it the gas on an on ramp? Not hard driving.

 

Naw, he should change it every 500 miles though, you know the damage sound waves through the oil pan can do...

 

#1 reason to buy a M/T is to bring it unjustifiably to redline once in a while, especially on the on ramp.

This engine loves to rev, it really likes to be around 4-5k. As others have said , rev away, it’s what this engine wants to do.

The ECU will let you know. When you hit the limiter, it cuts the fuel. Hint: it would be shocking if the published numbers actually match what you see on the tach. As OE tachs are typically optimistic at higher RPMs.

But, if you've never hit a rev limiter, you've never wound up the motor.

QFT! Italian tuneup is still a viable exercise.

 

I drive it like I stole it... only way to get a smooth shift without a clunk. And its more fun that way

I seem to hit the rev limiter on this truck alot more than on my ther vehicles. It feels like it pulls all the way to redline. I guess its a tradeoff for being gutless down low.

 

True. When I am at 35 and drop it down to 2nd and get on it itll pull really well compared to my 2nd gen. From a stop.... maybe a different story

 

Mine hits that with the adaptive cruise all the time I've been taking it easier on it than that but if the factory programs the cruise to hit it that hard it must be OK right?
