Start a case with corporate. You could also try another dealer. Sounds like might you have the low transmission fluid symptoms, and the howling rear diff. I think the ac blower has a tsb to get it fixed too.

Call Toyota and find out the buyout for the lease. Your truck might be worth more than the buyout. If you traded in an upside down vehicle when you did the lease then your lease might be upside down pretty bad. I took my wife's leased Toyota Sienna minivan to Carmax and they offered me a price that was a little above the lease buyout. With two months left in the lease I ended up trading the leased Toyota van for a Honda van with thousands of equity in the Toyota van. In contrast, every Toyota dealer I went to simply wanted to take the leased Toyota van back or even charge me for the two months I still had left. The Honda dealership did much better. You might try trading the truck in for another brand of truck. Non Toyota dealerships want Tacomas bad.

What’s comical about that is that they roll their eyes when you mention an Internet forum (as I would, naturally) because they (Toyota dealership) think they know better than anyone else... but they often are confused about tsb’s, not updated on their product, unenthusiastic about their product, and generally only know where to put the gasoline (the hole).

I’ve had many issues with mine. Oil leak, howling, clunk when downshifting, trans performance, leaking 3rd brake light, a few others. The only one they are really giving me a hard time with is the clunk when downshifting. Open a case with Toyota..things will magically start happening, also go to another dealer.

If you have followed my posts from the beginning you will know I can't help you here... seeing as how I have a bad case of hypoCARdria.... I tend to imagine problems with the vehicles I own when there are none...

Sure the schizophrenia doesn't help either... but who's keeping score

I find this to be the case at pretty much all dealers Toyota or otherwise. The smell/stench of desperation to sell you a vehicle permeates throughout the building. Hard business especially for those just starting out.

Hell, I pay 469 a month on my lease for 48 months and bought 15k miles instead of 12. At end of lease, I will have paid 22k. That leaves 12k to finance if I keep it. Regardless, I will have positive equity if I trade. Not bad for being 5k upside down in my trade in.

Yeah, I avoid dealership's service departments if at all possible.

    Information is power though.

I guess it's not necessarily having the winning hand but how you play your cards that matters.

The guy in the other side of the counter might be ignorant of the latest TSB, so rubbing his nose in it isn't going to lead to better service, probably just the opposite .....human nature 101.

If dealing with someone totally oblivious, I might just say I have a friend with a 3rd gen who just had his vehicle fixed at (name of another dealership close by) and mentioned something about a ......TBS I think he called it ......lol

The payment isn’t the key. It’s the net of payment x months x payoff. Add yours up and it sounds like you did ok. Need more info from OP to determine how bad a hit he will take.

Had a friend inherit just a bit of $$$ and they went and leased a loaded suburban for only
Like 450 a month for 36 months with a large down payment, maybe 10k. He was so proud of the deal and only paying 450 a month for a 75000 vehicle until realizing his payoff was still over $65000. Virtually none of the payment was going to payoff. Literally. The truck will be worth maybe 40k at best after 3 years. He’s already contemplating handing the keys over and taking a credit hit/collections problem.

    Exactly.

And it's that kind of poor thinking (I can afford it, because I can make the payments) that digs folks deep in debt. Often painful debt.

And it's why folks who inherit or win lottos too often have nothing or little to show for it 18 months later.

Contrary to popular opinion, money management is not about how much, but how well you manage what you have.

Those who don't do well with little rarely do well with more.

I was this close to Leasing mine for 5 years, and looked at the numbers for a 6 year purchase instead, and it was very close, so it was a no-brainer for me to purchase. But thankfully I am not having the issues the OP is having.

I would shop around to dump it if I was having all those problems, as they do get a good return.

right. I’m not gonna rub anyone’s nose in it, I’m just saying. It can be a pain in the ass even if you’re being diplomatic.

Man, that sucks for him. Tell him not to do it. Take it and see what they will give him for it and pay the difference and fees. He will be a lot better off.

My whole purpose to lease was to get out from under the dart. I was 5k upside down and they got me at 0. At end, I will have positive equity. Only thing I could do.

The residual value on your paperwork is what matters at the end of the lease...purchase amount minus payment amount over the lease term does not equal the payoff.

Mine says 12,238k. Truck should be worth 18 to 20k give or take. If I finance, of coarse the 12k will jump up with taxes and interest but either way, I’m in the good. Total sale price is roughly 34k and change.
