I know you aren't supposed to do this, but coming off a snowy and muddy mountain road onto a paved highway I forgot to take it out of 4wd. Went maybe 15 miles at about 60 mph and then through a curvy canyon before I realized it. I was starting to hear what sounded like something flapping in the wind. Thought maybe I got a jacket caught in a door. I pulled over to check and that's when I noticed it was still in 4wd. Took it out and then went on. Didn't seem to be any damage, but just wondering if I should worry about something down the road.

You should be fine, I think we have all done it before.

Nothing to worry about. If you broke anything, you wouldn’t have to ask if you did or not.

The giveaway is typically a “bound” feeling, especially when turning tightly which gives way to a “clunk” followed immediately by 3WD operations and a continuous “hey dummy” noise from one of the front corners.

Having said that, traveling in mostly straight lines and shallow curves for a few miles with your 4wd engaged isn’t likely to hurt your truck. Just don’t make a habit out of it.

Thanks. I didn't notice any odd feeling in the steering but was kind of curious about the "flapping" sound. Anyone heard that before?

I too think you will be fine. Go on some wet grass or dirt road and engage 4wd. Better to check it know than when you need it.

1 tire slipping repeatedly because of the path length difference would be most likely, but that has never happened to me personally so I can't say for sure. I have only gotten to the bound up feeling before going back to 2hi.
