Just got my bottles of Little Book Chapter 2: Noe Simple Task.

    20181109_175904.jpg

It's a blend of an 8 year old Kentucky straight rye, a 13 year Canadian rye, and a 40 year old Canadian whisky.

Chapter 1 was amazing. Still have 1 1/4 bottles. This is a quite different direction, though. Hope to have a report this weekend.

Edit: The 40 year old Canadian is a whisky (100% corn), not a rye.

That's him! Freddie is the great great grandson of Jim Beam and the grandson of Booker Noe of Booker's fame. Instead of his line being single barrels like the Booker's line, he is blending different whiskies to get a particular flavor profile. Chapter 1: The Easy was a Kentucky Bourbon blended with straight corn, rye, and malt whiskies. The influence of the single malt was noticeable and really welcome. I bought in right away based on my love of Booker's, so I got two bottles of Little Book Chapter 1. Liked it enough to see what Freddie has in store for Chapter 2. I'll probably keep a running vertical of each release for a little bit (how often can you actually start with release #1?!?!), but always will have a bottle to drink.

I guess you visited the distillery? There are some pretty important names to the whiskey industry on that barrel! I'd love to shoot the breeze with some of the guys from that family. I bet they have some great stories.

Too bad you can't swing on by for a pour! Good whiskey is always better with company.

I love Booker's, too. My favorite bourbon. This Little Book is a bit risky just based on the recipe. Canadian whisky can be a little off-putting to me. I hope he got this one right.

I've never had a Canadian even close to 40yrs old (with any age statement actually lol). I can't begin to imagine what that would taste like or what it could add to a blend. It's probably the whiskey I know least about just because I feel like a lot of it tastes so similar, so I never buy it.

I think it'd be fascinating to keep some of each release in little bottles to do a side by side after the whole line is out.

Don't tempt me! I might make the drive if the whiskey is good enough haha!

Same here. I don't guess I've ever had a 40 year anything, either . Freddie says he's trying to capture sweet and floral notes. We'll see.

The cabinet has grown/morphed a bit, but there is plenty of good stuff if you find yourself in the neighborhood :D.

I will definitely take you up on that! You certainly have some goodies, and holy cow that's a lot of Bookers! Juding from your cabinet you must love your bourbon! That balvenie 17 is one of my favorites and pappy's is well... pappy's :). This is what I have right now. The other side is all cocktail stuff, nothing fancy.

Anyone have suggestions on keeping track of what you buy with your tasting notes and comments? It's at the point now where I'm in the store looking, see a bottle I'm interested in and can't remember if I tried it before.

I figured there would be a ton of apps out there but haven't teally found anything. I thought something like: you type in the name and it would have a stock pic populate, with space to add a date, comments, would/would not buy again, etc. I could just make an excel spreadsheet, but would like something more polished.

Whiskey Suggest app. All you do is scan the barcode on the bottle, ANY whiskey bottle. You can add things to your collection too for everything you've tried so far and it'll save the tasting notes that you write for each one in the app.

    Best I've found so far.

First time trying this and have to say I am impressed with how smooth this is. Typically I like scotch and Irish whiskey but enjoy bourbon as well. This rye is quite nice and reasonably priced at $40.

$50 for BH is steep, even $40 is the regular going rate around here. Can find it as cheap as $32 if you know where to look. I haven't seen the Rye to compare those prices.

Unfortunately here in NY taxes raise the price of everything.
