Taco to 4runner?

Here's my questions:

All the stuff people bitch about on tacomaworld: lack of power, crap transmission, put bigger tires/lift/suspension/armour on tacoma and it blows ass...does 4runner handle all this better?

 

Nobody is mentioning towing capacity. On paper the current Taco has about 1400lbs more than the 4Runner. That was the deciding factor for me, I plan to eventually haul about 4500 total, and that was awful close to 4Runner max.

 

Current engine in the 4Runner is the 4L. Great engine up to abou 4K rpm. After that it tails off. My FJ version was an awesome duty truck.

 

My FJ towed the crap out of anything 4K pounds and under. So I agree that for most utility towing the 4Runner is a capable truck.

 

Does 4runner tow better than tacoma for anything unddr 4k pounds?

 

Hard to drag trailers offroad into the wilderness. That is the common comeback from the Tacoma offroaders. Other than that though, my 8x12 handles duty fine.

 

Only way for you to find out is test drive a 4runner. Me personally I don’t care for the 4.0 in the 5th gen T4r. It drives well enough but I’m used to the 4.0 in my Taco and it feels more nimble.

Now the V8 2uzfe in my 4th gen T4r on the other hand is a blast.

 

Wish I still had my 2013 Tacoma. It was perfect until the head on.

 

I have the best of both worlds, 16 TRD sport, Long bed which accommodates a tool box, just right for me, my wife hates the ride though, so we added a 18 4Runner, wife loves the ride, a prefect Mall crawler for her.

I would wait for the new gen coming out soon... maybe in one or two yrs.

 

I think anyone buying a DC Taco should look at a 4R first and not get caught up in buying a pickup just because it's traditionally manlier.

I have both the TRD Pro runner and the TRD OR Tacoma and I still prefer my Tacoma. Although, the runner is a more premium vehicle.

 

Nope. Longer wheelbase = better for towing.
