new member here... I hav an 02 Tacoma. 2.7 auto. I am running 265/72/16’s on it now it is geared 4:56 now. I live in western NC mountains and it seems a little weak here in the mountain roads. I am looking into re gearing to 4:88 to get a little more power Not looking for crawler gear. losing top end isn’t a problem either, just want to give it some balls. Any suggestions???? Thanks

If you mean 265/75R16 then we have the same truck, and I know how slow it is.

The cheapest 4.88 gears and master rebuild kit is about $1,000. The cheapest gear install quote I got was another $1,000. Expect to pay $2,000-$3,000 depending on who you use to install the gears for you.

This is for front and rear differentials. PreRunner/RWD is cheaper.

If you pull the thirds you can find labor for much less, $200 per third or so.

$800 + 400 labor + 100 for fluids and other BS or so.
you can get out the door for much less if you are able to put in the work of removing and installing thirds yourself

Have you found someone who will do a gear install for $400 labor? That price I was quoted was given by a small independent shop in Arizona, ECGS charges two times as much. I still have to send both thirds in.

There's a local shop here in Clovis, CA that charge 250 per diff for labor. Had well over 10 diff built by him.

Lots of dust and custom dents, Check Build
Lots of issues coming from ECGS diffs if you look around.

I wouldn't trust them to setup mine.

Technically you can send any 3rd in or wait till you receive the 3rd before sending yours in. And they will send you a freshly built one.

You have to send the front in though. Atleast for ECGS

I was hoping that Toyota had a factory gear close to 4:88 that I could get from a salvage yard. Do they have anything close to that

4.56 is the closest factory ratio.
