I ran them back when I lived in Texas and didnt care for them. If the duratracs have been good for you then I would stay loyal until they give you a reason to switch. But I have been extremely impressed with the st maxx.

I have thought recently about when or if these ever wear down trying something different. Either wildpeaks, Ridgegrapplers, or a different Cooper. After how these performed for me and others this past weekend I'm not so sure I do now. They had started getting a little feathered wear and makeing some noise until I was given a helpful hint to raise the preasure some and it has gone away. #MAXXlife

Good to hear the AOAA trip went well and they performed. I hope to make it out there sometime.

Has anyone put these tires on a 2018 TRD Wheel? Any rubbing or do you use a spacer?

Mine is a DD but I do mild off roading. I have a 2004 RC 4X4 so no positraction or lockers. I've got Cooper ATW's right now. They are supposed to be terrific on ice but last winter was so mild I never really got to test them out. Didn't want a heavier tire but am thinking of changing my mind since the ATW's aren't aggressive enough in deep snow or mud. When we have a normal winter deep snow is always very common. My problem is that when we have a normal winter here I do a lot of driving on ice. How are these ST Maxx's on ice? Some ice is more slippery than other ice depending on temp, traffic etc. Has anyone driven on these tires a lot on the ice?

I'd deal with the extra weight and lower fuel mileage if the ST Maxx's will perform as good as MS/2's or ATW's on the ice. Then I could actually get where I want to go in deep snow and mud as well.

true. they are hard ass tires on ice like any non snow tire. they are not the same soft winter rubber used in proper winter tires. but they are studdable and that's what sets them apart.

That's what I figured. I know no tire is great on ice as well as everywhere else. The best option is to have two sets of tires and rims. Therefore I have another question. It may be a stupid one since I have no experience with studded tires. Do those studs just wear down with the tire and still provide grip for the life of the tire if someone ran them year round? Something tells me it's a dumb idea to run a studded tire year round but I had to ask.

In n.y you can only run studs from oct15 thru apr 1. Around here you will get a ticket cuz local cops have nothing better to do than look for silly stuff to generate revenue.

They wear but not as quickly as the rubber. I'm in the Colorado rockies and think these do pretty good on ice packed roads for not being a dedicated snow tire. Don't expect to stop quickly like anything on ice and you'll be fine. Mine are not studded. Studs are noisy if that's a concern.

I will say when it comes to deep snow I've been pretty impressed what a regular AT can do when aired down to 10psi. The bigger the lugs the quicker you'll dig yourself to the frame. Big part of snow wheeling is knowing when to let off the gas, back up and run at it again.

Were you able to keep the mud flaps on with the new 255's?

I have the rears on. Have not had any issues but also only have about 50 miles down so far. :notsure:

Bur, with my limited experience I would say it shouldn't be a problem.

I have had my 255/85-16 on for maybe 200 miles. Last night it rained good and I couldn't get the tires to slip even when I tried!

    Love these things!

Thanks for the info. Clearly, two sets of tires and rims is really the only way to go. Noise wouldn't be a problem with me until I take my usual yearly trip in the summer. About 1800 miles round trip.

At 1k miles and a month of ownership on the ST Maxx's. Tested in snow and mud on the trails this weekend and they performed incredibly well aired down to 18 PSI. Still quieter and all-around WAY better than the Falken Wildpeaks they replaced on and off-road.
