You set the repeater offset to 5 MHz, which is what you use for 70cm. On 2m the repeater offset is +/- 0.6 MHz. If it was working before on that channel I dunno why it would break. However if you were in VFO mode rather than memory mode maybe the default repeater offset (Yaesu calls it ARS, automatic repeater shift) got changed.

Thanks @Stig for posting this. Took the test today and passed. Time to buy the cheap-o BaoFeng as my entry level just in time for RT.

Thanks for the offer! I already picked up a Baofeng UV-5RTP so I am good for now. I doubt I'll get a full blown mobile rig setup before Moab.

Great. Now Motorola and Kenwood and Hytera are just gonna tell us to pound sand when we need something to keep repeaters going. The FCC had no choice with the proliferation of them and people being so obvious about ignoring the rules.

The work around has always been to have a MARS/CAP certificate to allow modification or for the manufacturer to get a radio certified for Part 90.

In reality they will still get sold and will be easy to acquire. Look how easy it is to get illegal cb amplifiers and mods. You can buy a 100w cb amplifier on Amazon though it is marketed for the HAM market, the same will happen here, they will just change their business tactics and not sell them as business class radios.

So now when you order these radios they will be coming directly from China or other country. You, the end user could technically be held accountable for importing one now. There is specific exclusions stating that they can be used by those with amateur licenses. So my guess is you will now see these being sold as amateur radio equipment. This is similar to how you get amplifiers and "CB" radios that are high power and broadcast on illegal frequencies.

While we're on the subject...is this a decent mag mount?

Or what's an actual mount, would hard mount on my roof rack work fine or mag mount in center of roof work better?

    Of course.. Ordered last night.

Need to figure out what antenna though. I think i always heard putting it in the middle of the roof was the best place, in which case I'd do a mag mount.

If hard mount i could make an easy mount for one on the bed rack.

Probably grab a seat mount for the screen since that's the only option.

@Gramps and @thefatkid have a nice low pro mount that goes on the edge of the hood
