Do any of you knuckleheads know if I can use SPC UCAs with the TC coil bucket gussets?

I know the SPC bushings are set up a little different than the typical TC or Camburg arms.

I’m asking because I’ll be tearing into the front end soon and I’ll be gusseting cam tabs and possibly spindles as part of that. I’d like to gusset all the things while it’s torn apart, but not if the SPCs won’t play nice.

Biggest difference appears to be that they only use a washer at the outboard locations rather than both sides of each bushing.



The TC gussets have you omit the outboard washers, so it looks to me like the SPC arms should be compatible. I’ll take some critical dimensions from my current AP arms and compare them to the SPCs that I have on the shelf in the garage. I think it’ll be fine, though.

That’s exactly what I was hoping to see. It looks to me like just the one washer on the outboard side, right? The coil bucket gussets omit that washer, so I think I’m good to go.

 

I hope you don't mind if I move this here. I din't want to clutter the daily with all my questions.

I like the idea of using a whip but unsure about tuning it. I've always gone with adjustable tip antennas for that reason. You said that you got a pretty good SWR in the middle of the band, did you have to do anything to the antenna to get that? Trim the length?

Also curious about the whipping action. How flexable is it? Does it bend back towards the windshield from the wind when on the interstate? What happens when it gets hit with a tree branch? I presume there is no spring on the base like we usually do with a traditional CB antenna like a firestik.

I did have to tune the antenna, but it was a piece of cake. I took SWR measurements at the band edges and the mid-band before and during the trimming, and just slowly walked in to it. I think I cut 1/8” each time. I did notice that the bandwidth slightly decreased as the antenna was tuned up in frequency, but that’s to be expected. I ended up with 1.05 at the mid-band and 1.4 at the low and high channels. I had no problems making comms with the guys last year at Rock Therapy with pretty decent separation at times.

The flexibility is near perfect, in my opinion. It bends back a bit at speed, but it’s been great on tight trails with a lot of trees.

I also really like that I can take it off, hang it up, and cap the mount. So nice.

 

Sounds great. I need to redo my system this winter. This sounds interesting. I might go this route. Thanks much for the feedback.

 

Sorry Jason I could of dropped this in Bretts thread. Since a lot of the main 1st gen guys I trust are in here. Looking into replacing my fuel pump. Which one should I go with? Don't know much about fuel stuff.

I seem to remember that as well, Mike.

I haven’t had to mess with mine (yet), and all I really know about the fuel pumps for these trucks is that you need a higher flow rate pump for boosted applications. And like Mike said, I’ve heard that the Walbros can be kinda wonky, especially the noise that it makes. @eon_blue has a Walbro, maybe he can chime in.

Are you looking ahead to an SC, Ray, or is this part of your fix for the misfire? I know you said that changing the plugs helped a lot with that.

 

Yeah I have a Walboro 190 pump installed that came with the URD 7th injector kit. A few months after install, I noticed that it likes to whine when it gets hot...and it can get super loud at times to where I can hear the whine while driving on the freeway with the windows up. That's an extreme example and it's not always like that, usually it's pretty quiet minus the typical "hiss" of a working pump. But the whining can be concerning sometimes...although mine's done it almost since day one and I've had it on for 1.5 years.

If I were to do it again, Id get a different pump from AEM or Aeromotive like what @Speedytech7 recommended in another thread. Walboros have been around a long time but they're known to be noisy and not so reliable in some cases.

 

Both. I was planning on replacing the pump for the SC later on since I’m installing a fuel cell. But after talking to Brian and Tim last night about my pump getting old and could be part of my loss of power. Maybe it’s time now to consider upgrading the pump. Pretty much searching for what others recommend for a better pump.
