Body Mount Bushing Install - now with pictures! And a video too!!!

    OOh man, Pigpen - your steering stem ( at the coupling point ) probably was a little loose. I actually forgot to loosen it and it actually started to pull the frame with the body. At the end, the second I loosened the nut, it started to space out. Literally - 1.5 turns is all that it takes to loosen it.

    As for pictures, I'll have it later today.


    The location is driver's side ( Left ) wheel well. You need to remove the splash guard - once removed, you will see the coupling point and from there, you will loosen the top nut. BEFORE you loosen it - mark the coupler and spline just for reference.

    That's cool, yeah when I did mine and that happened, I really don't think it would have massive detrimental effects. The only thing it would affect would be your rack's bushings, even then - it's got room for ample amount of deflection.

    I think version 1.0 of energy's instructions said to loosen the steering coupler. But I think they dropped it in an updated version. I didn't loosen steering during install and truck was fine.

    Purpose of doing this mod is to replace the stock cab mount bushings that degrade over time, allowing your pinch weld below the cab to make contact with your sliders if you have them.

    I only did it because my cab was hitting my sliders, as CoBackCountry mentioned. The kit isn't intended as a body lift. It's just firmer, more durable bushings.

    I don't know if Toyota changed them. It's the same chassis, so I would think they are the same.

    Just did it today on my 2016, the brackets are not wide enough. Had to use a step drill to make the holes bigger. Seems like they upgraded the mount size by a tad on the 3rd gens.

    I am in the garage now about to start doing this project and i have a few questions.

    What is to stop me from doing the rear first, and working my way forward?

    How should i disconnect the ABS wires exactly? The brackets and the plugs or just the connections?

    You apply this lube on the poly bushing - pretty much any surface that MAY experience friction. This surface does not have to endure extreme temperature fluctuations so I feel it should be good.

    No reason not to work rear to front.

    I didn't disconnect the ABS. I did the front on a different day than the 4 body bushings. I think this may have prevented me from damaging the ABS wire.

    I got it done. Disconnected the ABS plugs and removed them from the brackets before i even started. Did driver’s side rear, passenger side rear, passenger side front, driver’s side front. Then driver’s side radiator and passenger side radiator.

    To get the front cab mounts out, i had to losen the steering shaft and both radiator mounts.

    I think i installed my radiator mounts upside down because my hood doesn’t want to open when i pop the latch. So i guess i’ll be troubleshooting that.

    Had the same issue when i did the universal mounts a year ago
