hi all. As your aware in Australia we don’t have the Tacoma but we have the hilux which also has the same engine with the v6 4.0L 1gr-fe.
I’m serously thinking of getting this supercharged so I can tow my heavy loads much easier. I also run this car on dual fuel being LPG with the direct injection system.
Does anyone have any advise on what charger I should use for more low down torque that would be best for towing or carrying heavy loads?
Yes I live in Australia but depends on what’s available I’m happy to buy from America and ship over.
    Thanks everyone.
    Justin

Yeah we do have the diesel motor. It’s a 4 cylinder 3.0l. Extremely popular in Australia. They stopped making the single turbo 3.0 in 2017 and now have a twin turbo 2.8l diesel with 130kw and 450nm. Not a bad engine but Ford brought out a Ranger which has a 5 cylinder 3.2L single turbo which is very good with 147kw and 470nm. It was the best selling Ute in Australia for the past 2 years.

I’m assuming the Tacoma runs the same drive train as the hilux?

This is the company in Queensland, Australia that I have been speaking to that I will get my supercharger from. I’m looking at stage 1 as that plenty of power for what I need. It’s a full DIY kit. Just thought I’d share this with you all for something to read.

Heres one option. Magnuson also makes a supercharger. https://www.urdusa.com/magnuson-supercharger-2005-2015-tacoma-v6/

Not sure about how compliant it is with your emissions laws. Welcome and good luck with your choice.

Hey jake. Thanks heaps for the links. I was actually looking at this charger but the only place I could find it was a guy in Australia who gave me the biggest quote ever. I nearly died from the price. If I can find out if this charger is a simple bolt on and not much needs changing then I’ll find out how much it would be to send one to Australia.
Once again thanks for the links. I’ll keep you posted how I go.
Are these charges common on the Tacoma’s in USA?

Magnuson used to make the TRD chargers. So if you had one installed at the dealer, thats what it was. They are fairly common. Not too many options when it comes to forced induction on the V6s

Hi all. Been a while since I first joined the forum and posted my first post. Since then I have obtained a second hand engine from the TRD Hilux that has the factory supercharged 1gr-fe v6,4.0L engine.
The cost blew out a fair bit cause when I bought the engine I didn’t realise that I needed an intercooler system so that was an extra $2500aud. Then I needed the ECU to suit the engine which was anextra $450aud. So yes costs blew out on a few other things too BUT I now have akick arse engine that is now running a 5sd manual trans which I’ve had reconditioned and strengthened so I can tow heavy loads in any gear. All I’mgoing to do now is install extractors and then get it dyno tunes and it should be all happy days. Once I’ve done this I’ll post the dyno sheet for any who is interested to have a look. Yeah it’s costmoney but hey... it’s all for some fun in my every day work Ute so why not! Thanks for reading guys! Justin
