Got a quick hunt in this morning before church. A young one that will taste great. Used my favorite whitetail gun, Cooper M54 in .250 savage.

I tried to find a 250 Savage for years! Great little guns. My daily is a 257 Bob but I lost my hunting land this year so I guess I’ll be sitting out this year....

Cooper is the only one chambering it on a regular basis. Savage does at times in a classic bolt style, but haven't seen one in years. My daughter uses the Bob with great success.

It helps that I hunt 10 minutes from home.

Next on my list a 7x57 Mauser if I can find one. I may get another Montana Rifle Company build but I haven’t even shot my last one in 280AI so I’m going to get rid of it and likely get the 7x57.

The 280AI is no slouch, but hard to beat a 7X57 in a classic style rifle. I'd love to have a British stalking rifle or German stutzen in it.

Agreed. I went on a buying spree that I greatly regret about 3 years ago, resulting in 30 plus long guns so I’m going to get down to a handful and call it a day. There is no reason to have that many (for me at least) guns that have never been shot. :). Same with optics. I’ve got NIB Swarovski, Leica, Leupold VX-6, Trijicon, and more that I’ve never even handled. I’m not sure what the heck I was thinking other than I wasn’t thinking. Lol.

Hard to beat the performance in such a small package. 3000fps with a 100gr bullet in a modern bolt or 2800fps in the savage 99 will kill a lot of stuff.

Yep I’ve been shooting the Barnes 80 and 100 grain TTSX in my Savage 99 that I got from my dad when I was 16 years old. It will shoot 3/4” groups at 100 yards which I feel is pretty good for a lever gun made in the mid 70’s.

This guy was walking across a field 150ish yards away. Did some doe grunts and had him on top of me within 30 seconds. He'll be a nice buck in a couple years.

The redneck blind did me in this weekend. I had a decent sized 8 point following a doe that i had been watching for a good 3 hours and when he walked out of the forest behind me only about 70 yards away, I went to open the window and the rubber weather stripping made the a loud ass pop and they both bolted back into the woods. Ruined my weekend, he was definitely worth mounting.

Modern Gun just started Saturday here. Not a lot of reports of anything major, yet. A couple of the Buckeyes I work with have dropped monster 8-10 points already in their archery season. WV deer locally aren't much bigger than your typical dog, and they can kill like 6 deer/year, lucky.

Big surprise. I'm way behind again this year. Didn't get out for early archery, I don't do blackpowder or x-bow. No stand, no camera, no feeder, and going to hunt Saturday on a brand new location. It's not hunted at all, so it has that going for it. Backs up to some vast unpopulated East KY hills that, via Google Earth, appear to haven't been logged in at least many many years if at all. I may be the best ever, or a total bust.

Only thing left to do is show up early Saturday before sun-up, find some old growth mast and wait. Now, 12ga slug through a short barrel shotty, or lug the AK?
