I. Want. Lift. So let's lift it.

Hey everyone. I know little to nothing about suspension lift and body lift and UCAs and 5100s and all those other words that get dropped regularly into conversation on this here website that I don't understand.


I don't really wheel. Every so often I'll go on a trail, because it is fun. But I will never be super intense with it, and I will always primarily drive on the road.

So. Is there a cheap way to go up a few inches? I have a PreRunner that was converted to a 4x4 from parts from another Tacoma, and in doing so a new bracket was made for one of the pieces just south of the transmission that the front wheel drive shaft is connected to, and that bracket really hangs low. So I wanna go up. And it looks a lot more badass.


So, all that being said, I know there's a few of you on here that are getting excited about this and really want to write a big reply explaining all the lift options and what all these terms mean. So give'r!

 

really a 4x4 prerunner, did toyota do the work or you?

 

You should at least include some pics of the transfer case, to show if it's really lower than a factory 4x4, then at least anyone willing to offer advice would have some frame of reference.

If it was a normal PreRunner or 4x4 I'd say 5100's are the way to go, especially since it'll be a primarily road vehicle, but who knows what kind of frankenstein you got going on, without pics it's hard to say.

 

get billy 5100s install the front at 1.75 and get an AAL for the rear. You will sit a bit higher and itll be level.

 

Shoulda just traded it in! Anywho, as far as "cheap lift" spacers and blocks. Better lift, coilovers and aal's. Even better, long travel and 4-link

Also, I don't know what "5100's" are. When you say things to me, you have to assume I don't know anything. I know things about vehicles, but not that. I'm the car audio consultant, not the lift consultant.


EDIT: The previous owner did the work. My mechanic told me he did a good job. And you guys are about to see, too.

Dude you have to be willing to do some of the research on your own. Like searching what the Bilstein 5100s are.

spacer lifts are spacers that go on top of the coil (usually 2-3") these lifts will usually have a aal (add a leaf) or a block that goes under the leaf springs

Okay. So upon crawling under my truck just now, I noticed that the bracket isn't actually any lower than the rear diff or the other bracket piece at the front.

I'm terribly sorry for leading anyone to believe I had a big gross metal piece inches from the ground. It's probably the same elevation as the stock 4x4 pieces. The alteration that was made to the bracket was just moving it backwards, not up or down.

All that aside, I still want lift, and yeah I probably should have done some research first, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I'll let you guys look at the pictures of my bottom while I read those threads you've linked me to, and hopefully only a few questions from my head will remain.
