In about one of every ten times I start my truck I get this grinding noise. Ill get in my truck start it and it will sound fine for about 3 seconds then ill hear this grinding noise for about a second then it will sound fine again. I have no check engine lights on or any other obvious signs that I would have a problem. My truck is a 2009 and havent even had it a year yet. Any ideas as to what this may be or anyone else have a similar problem.

It could be parts and pieces of a Ford or Chevy that your truck is grinding up. Do you often see bent up or broken yellow crosses in your drive way? :p

Wish I could help ya diagnose it but I really have no clue. I dont suppose the dealer could take a look at it, for free... Is it under warranty?

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
is it when the A/C initially kicks on for the first time after sitting?

Cound be your starter itself. I can't think of it's technical term, but theres a gear that engages to your flywheel when you turn your ignition over. And is released once you let go of your key. That could be getting power surges. Or something within your ignition system.

It is hard to say for sure, 100% over the internet. But that's my two cents.

Then again, like everyone else has posted, if its still under warrenty...go to the dealer.

Everytime it has happened the A/C has been on. But sometimes it doesnt happen at all when the A/C is on.

sounds like what mine does after it's been sitting for a while. truck comes on, then the A/C kicks in and makes a loud noise for a second, then never hear it again until it has set for many hours. mine didnt start doing it until after a few wheeling trips. no issues besides that noise w/ it, so i just deal

If my A/C is on when starting the truck, it makes a grinding sound. Like stated above.

Well seems like a few of us are having the same problem. Can any mechanics give us any insight as to what this may be and if it is something that should be worried about. My truck is still under warranty so I might go have it looked at just to be on the safe side.

Idk, but I'm going with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach.
