Yup, i don't know if there are any counties that don't have permit requirements in CO.

But, park county is a royal pain in the ass, and i was told that there's a freaking thc bubble gum factory that is BUILT in Hartsel, not a single permit. Tons of houses built out there without permits, permenant rvs, etc.

@thefatkid looked at this FJ cruiser today. The thing is mint condition. Only issues I saw were the transmission and differential fluids have never been changed. How big of a issue is that in a vehicle mostly highway miles and never off-roaded? It has 217000 miles. Also the rear locker wouldn’t engage. The light just kept flashing. It has never been engaged it’s whole life, could it just be gunked up? Thanks!

Yup, there was (probably still is) a 40ish acre property up golden gate canyon. But, on your own property, you had to have a residence of a certain square footage, and only one other building allowed. No gracias. But the property was so cheap since nobody wanted to deal with that.

I would not flush the trans fluid... Only change it a quart or two at a time.

But if they skipped out on fluids for its whole life.. I'd probably pass unless they dropped the price enough to cover replacing a few main components...how many times have they changed the engine oil?

Good deal, I threw six LED high bays up in my buddies shop, he wanted them all on a single switch, tried to talk him into 3 sets of two lights, he said nah. So I got wired all 6 on at once, he decided to let me do it my way

That’s my plan. 2 lights per bay. 3 separate switches.

Changed oil every 5k miles. The thing is spotless! They took really good care of it. Just weird that they didn’t change the drivetrain fluids. Said the only issues they have ever had was alternator going out in them recently. Single owner. Underside is spotless as well. Only reason they are selling it according to them is they just need something bigger with their kids growing.

I'd at least pop open the fill plugs and see what the other fluids look like. And take off a bit from what you'll pay if its nasty.

I talked him down to $10k that’s the lowest he will go unless he finds something out about the rear locker. He is going to take it to the Toyota dealership sometime this week for them to check it out. When I put it in 4lo he goes, “that’s probably the extent the 4lo has ever been used” It drove super nice, couldn’t tell it had so many miles. Way nicer than my 06 with 175k miles on it.

@Stig i would also say the interior was just as clean if not cleaner than that 08 Jeep with 16k miles on it. Actually had less rust than the Jeep as well.

Best case scenario is they say it’s going to be a $500 repair to replace the actuator and he knocks that off of the price and then I go to a junkyard and get one for cheap. Worst case scenario is it is way worse and I am out the price of a whole rear end.

But if the fluids haven't been changed in forever... They might tell him he's an idiot and he'll take more money off. Of course, if they talk him into a trans flush, you better walk away, or there's a good chance you'll be looking for a mod day for trans swap.

Apparently doing a google search there are plenty of dealerships telling people since it’s a sealed transmission you aren’t supposed to change the fluid! Which is wack. But yeah if they flush the tranny I am running away! Don’t think they will though he just wants to figure out why the locker isn’t activating.

I'd pull a trans fluid sample, if there is lots of particulates it is time to walk away. If not, "flush it" with a good fluid exchange machine like the BG machine that matches volume and pressure that the trans is sending through the cooler. Shit fluid will wear a trans out faster then new clean fluid. If new fluid causes the trans to fail, it was already on the way out. I've had luck with better shifts an almost all the high mileage 1st flushes I've ever performed.

Diffs, if they are not making noise already I'm shocked. If not, change the fluid and hope for the best.

Diff lock, likely the low range switch, or the wiring, or the locker motor. :D There isn't much of a magic wand here other than follow the voltage loss. I'd bet the low range switch but with such lack of use it could be everything
