For that price just get a pro.

God damn Toyota. A loaded Tacoma for 2019 is at MSRP $42K. Too rich for my blood.

Mistake number 1 was going to a Priority dealer. Mistake number 2 is doing a trade in. You want a good deal then, if it is possible for you, sell that Nissan outright first. Get a buy price from carmax for your Nissan for comparison pricing. Then shop the internet. I get good deals in Maryland and DC on new vehicles of all brands. Now I helped my daughter get a rare killer deal on a new Ford at Hall Ford yesterday 1/2 way to Williamsburg. When I bought my new 2016 Taco the only local dealer that was reasonable was Charles Barker. I ended up in Port Frederick, Maryland and beat everyone locally by $1500. And that was in January 2016 when deals were rare on 3rd gens. Priority "gives" priorities for life. By "give" I mean you pay for it in the price as well as it only works if you have Priority do every service to the truck. You take it for your free oil change and they bill you $70 for a "required" engine or transmission flush. If you do not do the required maintenance prescribed by Priority then you lose your "engines for life" warranty. My last 3 new vehicles were purchased between Woodbridge VA, DC and Maryland. I made my deals on line working through emails and then rented a one-way car to go pick them up. Saved between $1500 and $2500 on all 3 compared to Hampton Roads dealers.

Yeah but the Tacoma is a tiny little gutless small truck with poor low end torque and a cheese grater front grill.

I just purchased yesterday after a lot of shopping and price checking and it was painful. Tacomas pull a premium price and stealerships know it. I could get $6500 off a 2018 SR5 and $4000 off a 2019 SR at most dealerships around my area. Basically ended up the same price so I went 2019 for the newer truck instead of extra features.

Those are decent discounts but they would come out with ridiculous fees and financing and if you wanted to secure your own financing at the "cash" price they quickly pulled their discounts off the table.

I hate how car/truck shopping is. It always feels like theyre trying to bend you over and rob you instead of just being honest and up front.

I went on KBB to see the sell price for my Frontier, and my information was sent to them. The sales guy was great, super cool and was encouraging of my feedback when it came to the price..but...They wanted to give me $11.5k for my truck..I still owe about $15k on it..I don't do roll over. That total price had about $4k on it just by the negative equity. I will most likely slide by Carmax and see what they can give me. I bought my first Mazda from them

Agreed. The sales guy brought out his finance manager and they tried to talk me into switching up trims....He asked if I was set on the OR. I said yes,as well as the premium package..I'm not budging. It was kinda a mess. Which is why I told them to not run my credit and that I'm going to keep shopping. They didn't like that.

That is why I helped my daughter. Took all the dealer bs off the buy order. Saved her an additional $1500 off of their original offer. They even tried to add $700 for a new car buyer package. I told my daughter that was to wash it, install floor mats and license plates. I got her a buy order from DC and Hall matched it. I was very surprised they did. Every time I get a buy order from those northern dealers the local dealers will not budge. Not $1. So now I just start off with a buy order from up north, plan on the day trip, and run by the locals just to rub a lost sale in their face. For comparison I bought my Sport access cab cheaper in Maryland than I could buy an SR5 access cab from any dealer in Hampton Roads VA. So YES it is certainly worth a 4 hour drive. The factory warranty, and free ToyotaCare maintenance, is good at any dealer from coast to coast no matter where you buy it. Another thing that ticked me off is the nearest dealership, First Team Toyota, refused to locate a truck or look ahead at their allotments. All they would do is sell me what they had then, or coming within the next week, and would not go beyond that. For that reason alone I left the other dealer decal on the truck for my first couple of maintenance visits to First Team.

Don't forget, '19's of all car makes are going to include tariffs for steel and aluminum and many other parts/options. Plus you lose the cubby in the box to keep costs down a little. Sucks.

Alright. I’ve been haggling for weeks and this is what I have so far. In So Cal. 2018 Tacoma DCLB OR 4x4 with tech package, mudguards, carpet mats, tie downs, exhaust tip for $34,490. OTD price is $37,900 with tax, fees, etc. What do y’all think? Could I get lower?

So far I spoke with 4 dealers (mostly phone/text but one in person visit) and they won't budge anything worth it on a 2019 SR. They will deal on an '18 because there's incentives form Toyota.

So, are you saying you got $4K off, or they pulled that price?

Yes I had an email from one dealer offering $4k off MSRP, i was using that to negotiate with but they all wanted you to finance through toyota blah blah blah strings attached. Then they tack on fees for everything under the sun. window tint, filing fees, dealer fees, managers kids braces fee yada yada yada. They did the same on the 18s too though.

Why not finance through them for one month and then have your bank or credit union take over the loan?

I was thinking the same thing. My Toyota loan was only 2% for 42 months but on our other new Fords we took the best incentive, at 5%, to get an extra $500 cash and as soon as we got the first statement we did a refi for 1.79% at our credit union. The refi costs $100. So net savings of $400 each. Of course it must be a no prepay penalty original loan.

Anyone within 4-5 hours driving distance of Washington DC should contact Koons Toyota via koons.com because nearly all of their 2018 Tacomas are advertised at $3000 plus off of msrp and they do not add a bunch of bs fees. If serious you haggle the best deal on line and get a buy order. You can pick apart any bs fees from the buy order and get a great out the door price. Koons dealerships are my go to dealer to get a decent price for haggling with anyone else. Chances are their prices are the lowest anyway. They have dealerships for every make so they sell so much volume that they can really sell cheaper than most. Out of the last 4 new vehicles in my family 3 others did match and 1 did not. So I had to go to DC to buy 1 of the 4 new ones. Their Pro trucks usually sell for less than msrp too.

...^^^... Koons has been a heavy hitter in DC for a long time.

I remember sitting in a Shelby Mustang on Koon's showroom floor when I was getting out of the military from Bethesda Naval Hospital.

@Soloekahi Where is that deal? I’d take that deal if it was cement.
