and that's why tacomas have the option to turn the curtain bags off, literally for this exact reason.

 

Wrong section for that. Only 2nd Gens.

Supposedly, they designed in some logic that helps with that on 3rd Gens.

I can tell you this, a few times now mine has been rocking back and forth in rythmic bumps where the TCS system was firing, though I wasn't turning or spinning any tires. My guess was that the yaw sensor was getting info that I might be sliding or whatever. If that didn't cause the airbags to trigger, then I am quite pleased with the programming or hardware setup.

I remember reading about the setup on our old car. The system used a pressure sensor in the doors to detect a side impact and to blow the side airbags.

It seems that GM isn't that slick.

 

ahh, didn't know they got rid of that feature. I still feel like it would be better to have the option to turn them off.

 

I agree that the switch would be very nice to have as a guarantee. I have confidence in the system so far. The videos posted above are great examples of the Taco airbags not blowing and are well beyond anything that I would do.

Found the pic of my first gen pickup getting some sick air off of the sweet little jump back in the day (no date on the pic but either '85 or '86)

 

Chevy has their own suspension, the TRD Pro has Fox, and I believe the Raptor as well.

 

That truck is a beauty!
