Week one with the 2019

... concrete driveway ...

I have a clay driveway that goes to a concrete driveway. Gets all messed up after it rained and wife’s pulls up on it. Blah.....

 

I have never driven a vehicle with it, maybe it would be a nice feature in certain situations.

 

hill assist only works on steep hills . I had it on my manual hemi r/t u didn't even notice it . dodge has a option to turn it off .It was a nice feature wish they would do it on motorcycles .

 

That sounds like a good idea having the option to turn it off.

 

Yeah man I’m with you. Over the years of diving a manual I have gotten good at taking off from a hill. Luckily the O/R Does not come with hill start assist.

 

Wish I had a redwood deck. Or a deck. Or nice curtains. Or...

 

What are the main (non cosmetic) differences between the sport and off road? Like most people I drive primarily on improved/paved roads. Why do so many people opt for an off-road package vs one tuned for roads and highways?

 

Not sure exactly how it feels on the Taco (my 2018 OR does not have it), but my 2014 Accord has it. Very well done feature - so subtle I barely noticed it was there. I don't need to have it, but it definitely was nice to have. It made the Accord less intimidating for my wife to drive. She wants no part of driving my truck on a hill...

Personally I opted for the OR mostly for the cosmetic features, but its kinda nice having some of the real features too:

Different suspension - the sport suspension is stiffer
Rear differential lock - the sport does not have it
Front air dam - the sport has it, the OR doesn't - makes the approach angle a lot lower, so its likely to scrape in off road scenarios

 

Why could you not? Kids?

 

And crawl control on the auto and ATRAC in the MT is another big difference as the sport does not have either.

Why, especially in off-road circumstances would you not want a limited slip differential? Locked means the rear wheels have to turn together no matter what or do I have that wrong?

Since you have a Manual you also get the larger rear diff too.

 

Limited slip differential is to allow the inside and outside wheels to rotate at different speeds in a turn, specifically on pavement when there is little to no slippage of the tires. It works by allowing the tire with less "bite" to basically stop being powered. Perfect for a corner on the road when the weight of the vehicle is leaning outward onto the outside wheels. But when your stuck in loose terrain off road, this will cause you to get stuck. A differential lock is meant to be used at very low speeds, to crawl out of a sticky spot. Its a very useful tool for off roading, but you don't leave it on all the time.
